- Job Duties:
- We operate a 240-acre pecan farm (6,000 trees) which requires pruning, spraying, fertilizing, irrigation, pest monitoring, harvesting and processing pecans. We also operate a 600 head cattle farm which requires working cattle, watering, feeding, haying, spraying & fertilizing pastures, irrigating pastures, fence building and repair. We also make our own bermuda hay which requires irrigation, fertilizing, spraying,
mowing, raking, baling and hauling hay. We utilize mainly late model John Deere equipment for all hay and cattle operations. The pecan equipment is all late model specialty equipment. Job duties may include and are not limited to tasks such as: apply products such as fertilizers, pesticides, growth inhibitors, etc, attach/detach implements, be able to handle working in high humidity, clean work areas, construct facilities, direct and monitor work during planting and harvesting, feel plants/crops leaves and note coloring to detect the presence of insects or disease, guide products on conveyors to regulate flow through machines, haul and spread materials such as but not limited to fertilizer to condition the soil, identify plants, crops, pests, and weeds to determine the selection and application of pesticides and fertilizers, inform farm managers of plants or crops progress, load crops and drive trucks to transport to and from fields and/or storage locations or facilities, load and unload materials and commodities, load inputs and drive trucks to transport to fields, maintain grounds and landscaping, maintain inventory, mix
materials, dump solutions or seeds into planter, spreader, sprayer type machinery, operate self propelled machinery, participate in the inspection, grading, sorting, storage, and post-harvest treatment of crops, position boxes/bags at ends of machinery to catch products, remove and close full containers, record information about crops, regulate conditions, repair and maintain farm vehicles, implements, and mechanical equipment, repair farm buildings, fences, and other structures, set up repair, maintain, and operate specialized equipment, tend to livestock by feeding, medicating, general care, grading, sorting, working, placing identification on, or relocating, tilling soil, transplanting, weeding, thinning, pruning crops, trap and destroy pests, use hand tools such as such as shovels, trowels, hoes, tampers, pruning hooks, shears, loppers, and knives, use hand tools such as wrenches, crow bars, air tools, electric tools, work in extreme temperatures. Equipment such as but not limited to the following will be used/operated by the workers in conjunction with the duties being performed: augers, box sorting equipment, bailers and other hay equipment, combines or other harvesting equipment, GPS guidance systems, forklift, irrigation equipment, manure spreading equipment, mowers and other landscaping equipment, packaging equipment, pickups, cars, etc, self-propelled machinery, skid steers, sprayers, spreaders, swathers, bailers, and other hay equipment, tillage equipment, tractor/trailer combinations, tractors. The workers will be performing the duties to help produce: cattle, hay, trees.
