- Job Duties:
- Row crop farm labor duties include, but are not limited to: Drive and operate farm machinery such as tractors, ATVs, tractor-drawn machinery, and self-propelled machinery. Plant and maintain melon crop, including transplanting, weeding, and checking fields. Till soil, plant, irrigate, fertilize, harvest, store, and pack crops. Apply fertilizers, herbicides, and pesticides to crops. Set up and operate irrigation equipment. Load and unload supplies, boxes, containers, produce during harvest, etc. Perform manual labor, mechanical repairs, and maintenance such as preparing barns, draining fields, preparing land for planting, and maintenance of farm vehicles and implements, fences, and tools.
Cattle and hay duties include, but are not limited to: Maintain a cow/calf operation. Hay and feed cattle. Water cattle and maintain water tanks. Routine and urgent care for livestock. Monitor the herd for signs of illness or injury. Assist with breeding and calving. Administer vaccinations and medications. Perform routine maintenance and repair of both permanent and temporary fences. Perform basic vehicle, trailer, and equipment maintenance.
There are few typical days and workers may be required to change duties often and engage in various general functions. Daily duties may vary depending on crop, weather, and field conditions. Workers may be asked, but are not required, to work on their Sabbath.
