Job Duties:
These 2 positions will be involved in all aspects of the farming operation. Job duties will include; assist with daily cattle feeding duties/recording keeping on feed & treatments, maintenance of cattle pens including scraping and hauling manure out of pens, fixing cattle fences, maintenance of tractors and other farm machinery (ex: oil changes, filter replacement, other misc. upkeep of equipment), repairing tractors & farm machinery, assisting with daily hog chores/record keeping on feed & treatments, planting crops, harvesting crops (cutting silage and combining), discing/working dirt in the fields, loading out cattle and hogs as they are sold, and other miscellaneous farm duties. Breakdown of major job duties by month: Everyday they will assist with the daily cattle and hog chores and treat any sick or unhealthy cattle or pigs especially during the spring and fall when temperatures are fluctuating each day & night as the seasons change. March-April: moving snow in cattle pens & bedding down cattle pens, scraping the cattle pens, keeping cattle waterers thawed, maintenance of tractors & machinery used to complete daily cattle chores to make sure it will stay running well in cold weather, preparing for calving (setting up special pens, setting up areas for baby calves to be born, etc.), calving out cows & assisting mom cow with taking care of the new baby calves all day/night March-April May: finishing calving out cows, getting fields ready to be planted (for example: discing fields) and planting the fields, fixing pasture fence for cow pairs to be turned out to pasture June: finishing planting and starting haying alfalfa and grass, preparing all equipment for summer oatlage silage cutting and beginning putting oatlage silage July: haying alfalfa and grass, putting up oatlage silage, hauling manure in fields where oats were harvested August: Preparing for harvest and starting corn silage and earlage cutting, repairing/getting harvest equipment ready September: finishing silage cutting and starting combining, weaning baby calves from mom cow October-November: Combining, young calves filling the feedlot (intense treatment/caring for young calves), hauling manure into combined fields, working and preparing fields to be planted again in the spring of the year
