- All Activities: Workers will perform all job specifications as instructed by the Farm Manager or Crew Supervisor. Duties may vary from time to time and may include all of the following job specifications. The employees will perform any combination of the following tasks:
Prepare soil and growth medium; haul and spread topsoil, fertilizer, peat moss, lime and other soil conditions on sod grass and turf areas. This does not include work with herbicides/pesticides, the employer only allows licensed managers to work with these products. Workers will dig, rake, and screen soil; fill tanks with water and handle irrigation equipment; sow grass seed; cut, roll, and stack sod; load and unload trucks; operate mowers, forklifts and sod cutters.
When work in sod is not available, workers may be offered other general agricultural duties associated with sod farming including building and equipment maintenance, repairing fences and similar tasks. On occasion workers may operate farm equipment and other motor equipment.
Qualification: Employees must have the ability to understand and carry out oral instructions; have the physical ability to perform various manual tasks; as well as the ability to learn to use and/or operate light motor equipment.
Education: Sufficient to follow oral instructions
Job Location and Work Conditions: Work is performed outdoors in various field locations on the farm which exposure workers to all temperature and weather extremes (i.e. heat, rain, wind, cold, and dusty conditions), moving equipment, loud noises, wetness, dust, fumes, and requires walking on soft much and hard and uneven surfaces.
Physical Demands: Ability to work outdoors in a variety of weather conditions. Exposure to wet and/or humid conditions, moving mechanical parts, outside weather conditions, extreme cold and extreme heat. Ability to do manual work requiring strenuous physical exertion; e.g. continuous walking, bending, standing, pushing, pulling, and lifting. Must be able to lift up and carry fifty-(50) pounds over a distance of ten (10) feet or more.
Must be a team player who is willing to cooperate with others. Must be able to accept corrective criticism from supervisor.
The employer will provide the tools, equipment, materials, protective clothing, including gloves where required, to perform all job specifications without charge to the worker. The employer will charge the worker for reasonable costs related to the worker's refusal or negligent failure to return the tools or due to such worker's willful damage or destruction of the tools. Daily job assignments will be made by, and at the sole discretion of, the Company Farm Managers as the progression of the season dictates. locations. Workers may not switch work at Company locations without specific authorization of the Farm manager. At the direction of the Farm Manager and/or Supervisor workers may be re-assigned to different locations within the company at various times of the workday and/or on different days.
Non-workers will not be permitted at the work sites or on company property without permission from the employer. Importantly, no non-working minor children under the age of 18 shall be present at the work site, or left unattended in vehicles at the worksite during the day. Workers arriving at the worksite with non-working minor children or other non-workers will be sent home.
