- Job Duties:
- Shifts are 8 hours per day (7:00am-4:00pm Monday-Friday), and 5 hours on Saturday (7:00am-1:00pm), with a one-hour unpaid lunch. Plant, cultivate and harvest sugarcane and soybeans by hand or machine; till soil; transplant and weed crops; clean grain bins; haul soybeans to elevator; set up trellises; repair fences and farm buildings; set up and operate irrigation equipment; clear and maintain irrigation ditches; may operate tractors, tractor-drawn machinery, and self-propelled machinery to plow, harrow and fertilize soil, or to plant, cultivate, spray and harvest crops on farm property; use hand tools, such as shovels and hoes; identify plants, pests and weeds; record information about crops, such as yields or costs; inform farmer or farm managers of crop progress. Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds. Workers who have a valid driver's license and doctor's certificate may drive transportation vehicles to transport workers on farm property, and may be offered additional hours. Must have minimum three (3) months' experience working on a farm. Must be twenty one (21) years old or older. Required to work outside in extremely hot, cold, and/or wet weather. Allergies to ragweed, goldenrod, honeybees, insecticides, herbicides, fungicides, or related chemicals may affect a worker's ability to perform the job. Perform physical activities that require considerable use of your arms and legs and moving your whole body, such as climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, stooping, and handling materials. Spray fertilizer or pesticide solutions to control insects, fungus and weed growth, and diseases, using hand sprayers. Repair and maintain farm vehicles, implements, and mechanical equipment. All tools, supplies, and equipment required to perform the duties assigned are provided to the worker, without charge or deposit. Hours may fluctuate due to weather conditions or mechanical breakdowns but will not reduce the 3/4 guarantee over the life of the contract. Possibility of work breakdown will not reduce workers guarantee over the life of the contract.
