Job Duties:

Crops: Cabbage, Squash, Apples, Pumpkins, Cucumbers, Tomatoes, Peppers, Beets and Carrots Workers will perform various duties associated with growing the vegetable crops listed above. Workers will plant cultivate and harvest vegetables. Workers will lay, fix, and pull plastic. Workers will hook up, unhook, and fix water. Workers will stake and tie pepper, Cucumber, and tomato plants. Workers will perform support duties such as making boxes, packing, cleaning buckets and work areas. Workers will assist with weed removal. Worker must possess the physical strength and endurance (ability to continue or last) to repeat the harvest process though out the workday, working quickly and skillfully to perform activities assigned during that activity. Workers must work at a sustained (continuing for an extended period of time without interruption), vigorous pace (quick and steady) and make bona fide efforts (made in earnest intent) to work efficiently (performing or functions in the best possible manner with the least waste of time and effort) and consistently (same way for a long time) that are reasonable under the climatic and other working conditions, Workers may not leave trash, or other discarded items in work areas or vehicles but must dispose of such items in provided receptacles. Workers must wash hands with soap and water after all bathroom and meal breaks. Allergies to varieties of ragweed, goldenrod, insecticides, related agricultural chemicals, etc., may affect worker’s ability to perform the work described herein. Must display the ability to move, place, climb and work from orchard ladders up to 16 feet in height, making the necessary adjustments for various procedures while carrying up to 30 pounds. Sanitation Requirements: For food and general personal safety purposes, all workers will be required and expected to follow common sanitary practices at all times. This is particularly critical when hand harvesting crops for human consumption. Employees are required to cleanse their hands by washing them thoroughly with soap and water after using the bathroom and before entering the fields for harvest activities or the packing facility for packing operations. Harvest Productivity Standards: Workers must maintain a 5% or better bruising rate. Apples: Workers will perform various tasks involved in planting, cultivation (including pruning and thinning) and harvesting fruit according to supervisor’s instructions. Workers will till soil, plant stock, and do pruning activities using a variety of tools. Workers will aid in irrigation duties. Will aid in minor repair of wooden fruit containers. Workers will harvest fruit according to color, size, and degree of maturity as specified by supervisor and place into ¾ bushel baskets taking the extra time, care, and effort not to bruise or scar the fruit. Orchard Maintenance: Workers involved in orchard maintenance will be required to hoe trees, girdle, spread fertilizer, pick up roots and limbs, strip suckers or unwanted growth trees, dig root suckers, remove vines, lay irrigation pipe, repair and maintain irrigation system, and strap and tie fruit trees. Employer will provide all equipment. Instructions will be given for each task and standards of performance communicated to workers. The specific standards for a job will be disclosed and demonstrated by the supervisor before the worker begins. Packing operation: Workers will perform various activities associated with packing produce harvested in the orchards. Workers will be required to grade, fill, level, make boxes, and stack produce. Workers will perform support jobs that include bin and pallet repair and after hours clean up.

Special Requirements:

All workers should have at least 3 months experience hand harvesting produce on a commercial farm. Applicants must be able to furnish affirmative job references from recent employers. Must be physically able to meet and perform all job specifications stated in job order. Must be able to work in the hot humid weather for extended periods of time. Workers are subject to random drug testing post hire at no cost to the employee post hire. Failing or refusing a drug test will result in immediate termination.
