Job Duties:
Field crew members are responsible for all types of vegetable-related tasks, including seeding in the greenhouse, direct seeding in the field, bed preparation, transplanting, weeding, cultivation, irrigation, harvesting and occasional packing. Persons seeking employment in this position must be available for the entire period requested by the employer. This job requires a minimum of 3 months of agricultural experience working in a greenhouse or vegetable farm handling both manual and mechanized tasks. Workers must be able to perform manual and mechanized tasks with accuracy and efficiency. Applicants must be able to furnish verbal or written statement establishing relevant prior work experience. Ideal candidates will have worked at least one or more seasons on a commercial farm. Workers will plant, cultivate and harvest vegetables; use hand tools including, but not limited to: shovels, hoes, clippers, loppers, saws and knives; spread plastic or other ground covering; clean plastic by hand from ground upon removal and prepare for storage; till soil; weed and thin plants; transplant plants by hand; stake/tie; trellis/prune; and set poles and wires for vine plants; pick, cut, lift, or pull crops; When harvesting vegetables, tie in bunches; grade, size and field pack products; take care handling all products to prevent damage. Maintenance work will include mow, cut, and weed fields; perform ditching, shoveling, hoeing, hauling, ground preparation, and other manual tasks. Bending, stooping and kneeling is required. Workers must be able to lift, carry, and load/unload products or supplies; use power equipment including but not limited to: tractors, planters, mowers, plows, sprayers, cultivators, power shears, chain saws, high lifts, fork lifts, skid loaders. Must operate agricultural equipment safely, with or without direction. Workers may assist with farm building/field maintenance and repairs. Work is done in the field for long periods of time. Workers may assist in handling product weighing up to 75 pounds and lifting to a height of 5 feet. Workers must work on their feet in bent positions for long periods of time. Work requires repetitive movements and extensive walking. Work in fields when plants are wet with dew and rain, and may also be required during light rain, snow, moderate winds, direct sun, high humidity and extreme temps. Temps in fields during working hours can range from 10 to over 100 degrees F. Workers may be required to work during occasional showers not severe enough to stop field operations. Allergies to ragweed, goldenrod, honey bees, insecticides, herbicides, fungicides, or related chemicals may affect a worker's ability to perform the job. Workers should be able to do the work required with or without reasonable accommodations. Worker attributes should include: strong communication and ability to work as a team; physical resilience to work efficiently in all types of weather; self-motivated with get-it-done mentality; passionate and motivated to work on a diversified farm; and ability to receive constructive criticism and feedback. Employer reserves the right to discharge an unqualified worker, who is physically able but is unwilling to perform the work necessary for the employer to grow a quality product, or for any other lawful reason. The employer may discipline a worker, including brief suspension of work activities/employment for a set period determined by the supervisor or termination of employment. Workers may not report for work while under the influence of alcohol or drugs. Possession or use of illegal drugs or alcohol (except for moderate alcohol consumption in company housing during non-working hours) on company property is prohibited and will be cause for termination. All terms and conditions included in the job order apply equally to all workers, both U.S. and H-2A, employed in the occupation described in this job order.

Special Requirements:
Worker must be able to work outdoors in all types of weather. Must be able to repeatedly lift and carry 75 pounds; crouch, squat and bend for long periods of time. A designated farm crew leader or supervisor will provide instructions and general supervision. Worker will be expected to perform their general duties as quickly and efficiently as possible without close supervision. During busy planting/harvest season worker may be requested to start earlier and work more than the scheduled 40 hours per week, including holidays. When weather is hot, starting and ending times may be shifted to earlier or later in the day. This may vary depending on crop and weather conditions. Driving requirements, such as ability to operate farm equipment involved in planting and harvesting; as well as driver's license with a clean driving record is required to drive farm equipment and vehicles.
