- Job Duties:
- Workers will perform all tasks traditionally included in the operation of diversified, organic vegetable farms. We grow a large
variety of vegetable crops as well as herbs and cut flowers. Workers will work in the fields, in greenhouses and caterpillar tunnels,
and in the pack area.
Field work includes: manually plant, cultivate, and harvest vegetables, herbs, and other field crops. Use hand tools, such as
shovels, trowels, hoes, tampers, pruning hooks, shears, and knives. Some duties include tilling soil and applying organicapproved fertilizers; transplanting, weeding, thinning, or pruning crops; applying organic-approved pesticides. Weeding and
thinning done by hands, hoes, flame weeding, and tractor implements. Assist with irrigation including the laying out irrigation
lines. Trellising and pruning tomatoes both in the field and in caterpillar tunnels. Assist with field preparation and clean up.
Operate tractors and implements. Implements include, but are not limited to seeders, transplanters, plastic mulch layer and lifter,
drip tape layer, cultivating equipment, rototiller, mower. Greenhouse work includes mixing potting soil, preparing propagation
trays, seeding, watering and thinning. Washing and packing duties sorting/grading, washing, bunching, and packing of produce.
Workers will also assist in the cleaning and sanitation of packing area. Additional duties include operating farm vehicles on and
off the farm, cleaning, maintaining, and performing basic repairs on farm equipment and vehicles, and loading and unloading
trucks. Through use of basic power tools like drills and saws, along with hand tools like hammers and screwdrivers, workers will
assist with projects like building caterpillar tunnels, re-sheeting greenhouses, and other projects incidental to vegetable farming.
Workers will also help maintain the property by removing weeds and cutting grass with mowers. Employer will provide gloves and knee pads for any hand-weeding, -thinning, or hot-capping.
Effective 1/1/25, overtime must be paid after 48 hours worked per week, or 56 hours worked per week for up to 22 "peak weeks" for highly seasonal employers."
