Job Duties:
Workers must be able to plant, cultivate (staking and tying) and harvest a variety of vegetables, horticultural specialties and field crops such as: asparagus, strawberries, lettuce, spinach, arugula, pea pods, broccoli, cauliflower, cabbage, zucchini, cucumbers, bell peppers, sweet corn, green beans, cantaloupes, onions, tomatoes, jalapenos, heirloom tomatoes, squash and watermelons. Plant produce by hand placing into pre-dug holes along rows. Pick developed peppers, tomatoes, and cucumbers from bush and place into bucket. Cut squash and eggplant using a knife and place into bucket. Cut greens with knife making sure to remove any discolored or defective leaves, place bands around bundles and put them into box, located in field. Cabbage will be cut using a knife and will be individually placed into moving truck. Cut cabbage rows clean of correct sized heads and correct number of leaves, being gentle with heads. Harvest corn by hand, making sure stalk is pulled clean of all ears of correct size and maturity. Cut watermelon or cantaloupe from vine, lift selected melon, then pitch the melon to another worker who catches the melons and pitch to another worker gently places them in the designated bin. Make sure that plants are picked clean of all produce of correct size and maturity according to supervisor’s instructions being careful not to bruise or damage produce. When bucket/box is full, carry to dumper on truck that is moving through rows alongside workers, being careful not to bruise produce and receive new box for greens. Prune, take cuttings for propagation, load trucks, repair drip irrigation, spray, nursery work, irrigation work, weed, dig ditches, daily farm maintenance, clean production areas and facilities and work areas. Inform managers of crop progress. Workers will Stake and tie. Set up and operate irrigation equipment. Remove stakes, string, and plastic. May repair fences and existing farm buildings and participate in irrigation activities. Incidental feeding and watering of small herd of cattle. Operate, do minor repairs, clean and maintain farm equipment and vehicles. Assist with Good Agricultural Practices policies. Workers are expected to possess the skill work in the production of crops listed. The introductory period for all work and to familiarize workers with job specifications and to demonstrate proper harvest methods and other crop specific issues. Workers must adhere to all safety rules as instructed by the supervisor. Workers must take care to handle tools, equipment and produce in a manner to avoid injury or damage. The employer will comply with all federal, state, and local safety requirements. Operational specifications can change during the season due to crop or market condition. Workers will be expected to conform to the specific instructions given for each day’s work. Instructions and general supervision will be provided by the employer or a designated employee. Workers will have close supervision to ensure adherence to instructions. Work will be closely monitored and reviewed for quality. Daily individual work assignments, crew assignments and location of work will be made by the employer or designated employees as the needs of the operation dictate. Workers may be assigned a variety of duties in any given and different tasks on different days. Workers may transport crop to the packing shed, which is located on the farm. Workers may operate the company’s vehicles to transport workers from/to housing to fields and grocery store.

Four-month experience in manually Planting, Cultivating, Harvesting; asparagus, strawberries, lettuce, spinach, arugula, sugar snap peas, broccoli, cauliflower, cabbage, zucchini, cucumbers, bell peppers, sweet corn, green beans, cantaloupes, onions, tomatoes, jalapenos, heirloom tomatoes, squash and watermelons. Valid drivers license required if driving a vehicle. Workers must be 18 years or older. The employer may conduct a criminal background check on all new applicants for employment, at the employers expense. All tools, supplies, and equipment will be provided at no cost to workers. Lifting requirement of up to 40 lbs. The majority of the workday is spent on ones feet. Workers may stand in one place for any period of time. Due to the nature of business and equipment used, repetitive movements such as pushing, pulling, sitting, walking, stooping and bending.
