- Job Duties:
- Farm Equipment Operation - Workers are required to operate tractors and other farm equipment to perform daily operations such as tilling, planting, cultivating and harvesting. This includes transporting farm equipment to fields and harvested product to processor. The job also requires preventative maintenance on farm equipment. Before any worker operates farm equipment, they will be instructed in the safety and operation of the tractor before driving the tractor. Tractors should be driven in a manner to protect operator, other workers, products, trees, crops, and equipment. Repeated failure to obey safety requirements and operating instructions may result in termination. Any workers operating farm equipment including field tractors or over the road vehicles, the workers are required be able to communicate in English and follow basic instructions in English.
Irrigation - Workers will lay down irrigation pipe, monitor for leaks, move and remove pipe as needed throughout the growing season. Pipe can weigh fifty (50) lbs. and workers will be required to carry pipe short distances from the truck to the field.
Building and Field Maintenance - Light building maintenance required to involve sweeping, cleaning, and painting in and around farmstead, including buildings and grounds. This also includes field maintenance such as rock picking, trimming hedgerows and hand weeding.
Secondary Job Descriptions:
Installation & Disassembly of Agricultural Equipment - Disassemble equipment that is no longer in use. Install agricultural equipment in farm. This includes uncrating and sorting building material, assembling sections of equipment and joining sections together. Construct feeding and drinking systems, as well as manure removal equipment. Install lighting and ventilation systems, and other light construction work in and around the farm site. This does not include preventative maintenance.
Vegetable Crop - Workers will prepare fields for planting Vegetables (Corn, Soybeans, Small Grain, Buckwheat, Beets, Squash, Peppers, Sweet Corn, Eggplant, Cucumbers, Cauliflower). Worker will plant Vegetables according to their supervisor's instructions. Workers will bend and stoop to pick vegetables according to size, color, shape and degree of maturity and place into field containers. Pickers will take care not to bruise or scar produce. Pre-harvest activities include picking rock from fields, transplanting, pruning and weeding. Workers will carry full container weighing approximately fifty (50) lbs. and empty into larger bin or onto trailer. Workers are required to work in fields when plants are wet with dew or rain. Temperatures in fields during the working hours can range from thirty-five (35) to over ninety-five (95) degrees.
Transportation - Workers will drive to/from the work site and to/from field as needed. Workers will drive weekly to the grocery store and bank. The transportation plan will be communicated from the Kreher Manager. The workers will have 24 hours/7-day week access to the vehicles therefore there is no pick-up/drop-off needed. These two workers will either share a F150 or similar pick-up or CRV or similar SUV or have their own depending on the daily plan from the Kreher Manager. Pick-ups have 3 seatbelts and CRV has 5 seatbelts. All transportation will be provided at no cost to workers on the H2A program who reside in NYS DOH inspected/certified housing.
Biosecurity Requirements - Any persons coming on to our farms and into our barns must not own birds, unless they are not located within a commutable distance from any of our farm locations. This is mandated by the following:
