Job Duties:
All applicants must be able, willing and qualified to perform the work described in this job description and must be available for the entire period of employment specified in box 3 & 4, page 1. Workers are needed to raise and care for honeybees. The worker will build and maintain beehives, extract and bottle honey, remove hive parasites and maintain the health of the hive. Workers will assemble beehives to the desired specifications, force bees from a hive using a smoke pot to inspect the hive, destroy excess queen bee cells to prevent the division of a colony, treat hives for parasites and remove vermin, extracting honey from beehive frames. Workers will also cultivate queen bees to sell to other apiaries as well as split colonies. The ability to stay calm under pressure is a must. Workers will operate trucks or other multi-purpose vehicles to transport workers from housing (whether on or off farm) to the farm properties; haul tools, supplies, or crops; transport workers from place to place around the farm properties during the workday (including on public roads to reach farmer's fields); and/or transport workers to the grocery store, bank, or laundry facilities on an as-needed basis. Those that are requested to drive will be required to possess a valid driver’s license; no worker will be rejected for not having a driver's license. Workers must be able to work in various extreme weather conditions from damp and cold spring and fall days to hot and humid summer days. The work is physically demanding, requiring workers to stand, bend, stoop, as well as kneeling or working on knees during specified tasks for extended periods of time. Workers must be able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds on a frequent basis. The employer will furnish to workers without cost all tools and equipment required to perform assigned duties. The employer will provide 1 day of training and allow 2 days of work for the workers to satisfactorily perform duties described in this job description. Workers may be required to work 9-hour shifts within the hours of 7:00am - 7:00pm from Monday to Friday. Workers should be available for work on Saturday. Workers get at least 30-minute Lunch break which is staggered between 11am - 1pm as decided by the workers. The workers will return to work after their 30 minutes are up. The beginning and ending times will vary depending on the weather conditions. Workers must be able to take direction in simple English.
