Job Duties:
Crops/Commodities: Sugarcane, Rice, Crawfish and Cattle. Harvest sugarcane by hand or machine. Operate tractors, tractor-drawn machinery, grain auger, and self-propelled machinery. Follow harvester on foot through field picking up dropped cane. Assist in preparing fields for planting. Worker will unload pre-cut sugarcane stalks that measure 6-10 feet long from supply wagon at fields. Work in groups to plant sugarcane while walking behind moving wagon. Place and straighten stalk segments into open furrow rows at specified intervals/overlaps. Use machetes to chop stalks into 24 - 36 inch lengths. Ride, walk, stoop, bend, reach, chop or kneel repetitively while planting sugarcane by hand for prolonged periods of time. Use hand tools such as shovels, trowels, hoes, tampers, and knives. Transplant, weed, thin crops; clean, pack, and load harvested products. Ensure that hopper is filled and emptied properly. Mechanically plant and harvest rice. Walk fields to check on and maintain adequate water supply to crops. Operate tractors, tractor-drawn machinery and self-propelled machinery to plow, harrow and fertilize soil, or to plant, cultivate, and harvest crops. Cultivate sugarcane and rice. Workers will perform farm, field, irrigation, and farm equipment maintenance. Use hand tools, such as shovels, hoes, nets, and knives. Till soil, weed fields, and load and unload harvested products. Repair fences and farm buildings, and participate in irrigation activities, including setting up and operating irrigation equipment, cleaning and maintaining irrigation ditches. Operate tractor, combine, tractor-drawn machinery, auger and self-propelled machinery to plow, harrow, fertilize soil, cultivate and spray crops. Repair, clean, and maintain farm vehicles, implements, and equipment. Apply pesticides, herbicides or fertilizers to crops. Inform farmer or farm manager of crop progress. Install levy gates, unroll levy gates, roll levy gates, drain levy gates, carry irrigation pipe, and dig irrigation ditches. Build and maintain rice levees, put in spillways, rogue rice fields during flood. Operate farm vehicles and equipment including tractors, bushhogs, sprayers and crawfish boats. Assist with off season crawfish pond activities. Perform general farm maintenance including weed and grass control. Clean, repair and maintain farm vehicles, machinery, specialized machinery and agricultural equipment. Clean work areas and maintain farm buildings and grounds. Workers are responsible for farm, field and shed sanitation duties. Workers who have a valid driver's license and doctor's certificate may drive multi-purpose vehicles to transport workers on and off the farm and may be offered additional hours. Workers will perform field preparation and field clean up including burning fields. Minor activities include: tend to and maintain livestock and pastures; coral and load calves; load, stack and haul hay to barn; operate, repair and maintain farm vehicles, implements and mechanical equipment; and repair fences and farm buildings. Assist with Good Agricultural Practices policies. Allergies to ragweed, goldenrod, honey bees, insecticides, herbicides, fungicides, or related chemicals may affect a worker's ability to perform the job. Persons seeking employment in this position must be available for the entire period requested by the employer. Employer may request, but not require, workers to work more than the stated daily hours and/or on a worker's Sabbath or federal holidays. Worker must report to work at designated time and place each day. Daily or weekly work schedule may vary due to weather, sunlight, temperature, crop conditions, and other factors. Employer will notify workers of any change to start time. Workers will have an unpaid lunch break. TERMINATION. Prior to any termination for cause, employer evaluates workers' performance of required tasks and compliance with Work Rules and other employer policies.

One month of general farm labor experience required. Work will be performed in inclement weather conditions. Perform repetitive movements. Sit, reach, bend, stoop, push, pull and stand for extended periods of time. Lift, carry and load up to 50 lbs.Drug testing is conducted upon suspicion at the employers expense and is not part of the interview process.
