Job Duties:

Watermelon-Duties may vary from time to time. Workers will perform assigned duties as instructed by their supervisor. Perform manual labor. Workers will harvest, cultivate, plant, turn vines, cut, pick, and field pack watermelons in the field. Duties include cleaning, loading, and unloading harvested products. Grade and sort products according to factors such as color, species, length, width, appearance, feel and quality to ensure correct processing and usage. Discard inferior or defective products and/or foreign matter, and place acceptable products in containers for further processing. Weigh products or estimate their weight, visually or by feel. Place products in containers according to grad and mark grades on containers. Measure, weigh and count products to ensure that packing specifications are met. Workers must perform manual labor to lay/repair/pull plastic from the field and load onto a trailer. Install/removal of irrigation equipment. Clean and maintain work area and all tools and containers. Workers may also lay and pull plastic. Vegetables: Workers will harvest vegetables such as tomatoes, bell peppers, cantaloupe, and cucumber, as well as other vegetables and fruits. Shovel, haul, spread manure, dig holes, ditches, and trenches. Assemble cardboard boxes and stack on pallets. Manually plant, water, cultivate, harvest, count, load and unload vegetables, horticultural specialties, and field crops. Workers will field pick and pack vegetables in the field. Use hand tools such as shovels, trowels, hoes, tampers, pruning hooks, shears, and knives. Duties may include, applying fertilizers, transplanting, pulling weeds, raking, cleaning around shed area, thinning or pruning crops, cleaning, grading, and packing harvested product. Workers will also do staking, tying, cutting string loading, removing, and unloading of stakes. May do minor repairs to fences and farm buildings and participate in irrigation activities. Apply water to plants as scheduled, Apply fertilizer to plants as scheduled, mix and apply chemical spray materials as instructed. Change warning signs when needed Monitor greenhouses and plants for presence of pests and diseases. Report this information to the Supervisor. Keep greenhouses and the areas around the outside free from weeds and pests by mowing and hand pulling weeds and applying pest control products as instructed. Keep numbered and tagged orders arranged neatly within the greenhouses at all times. Duties will also include operating forklift and operate tractor, assisting with minor repairs and maintenance, and pulling weeds. Workers with valid drivers licenses/authorization may be asked to transport workers to/from field, grocery, housing, etc.

Applicants must be 18 years or older. Employer may conduct a Background Check on all new applicants at the owners expense. Must assist with all Good Agricultural Practices policies. Must be able to work with minimum supervision. The majority of the work day is spent on ones feet and outdoors. Workers may stand in one place for any period of time. Workers must be able to climb, stand, sit, stoop, squat, kneel, crouch, bend (from the waist), push, pull, reach, and lift 10-100lbs. Work is performed in outdoor agricultural fields and involves exposure to sun, wind, rain, soil, mud, dust, heat, cold, and other natural elements. Workers must be able to withstand working in the direct sunlight and weather conditions ranging from hot and humid weather, moderate rain and cold while performing their required job duties.
