Job Duties:

We are seeking a dedicated and hardworking individual for our Sweet Potato harvesting season. This is a seasonal job and if hired, you are expected to complete the full contract period. SWEET POTATO HAULING: Worker will be responsible for hauling potatoes from fields to storage shed, off farm, within 50 miles between fields. Routes will range from county roads, streets, and highway (all local). Must have updated Driver’s License – no CDL required. Driver will only be hauling farm-owned potatoes. Each day the worker will report to work at the time specified by Supervisor or Employer on the previous night. Driver will be given load pick up times and locations. Driver may have to hook up trailers including air lines for breaks and electrical line for trailer lights and be sure the king pin is locked. Will also inspect truck and/or trailer daily before driving. If any issues are found with vehicles, driver will inform Supervisor as vehicle may need to be taken to shop for repairs. If no issues are found, driver will then travel to specified location, obeying all traffic laws. Once the load has been delivered and unloaded, driver will continue to next field to pick up potatoes to make delivery. At the end of the day, the driver will fuel truck to have ready for next day. Driver is to report by phone or in person to their Supervisor upon delivery of every load and again at the end of each day. Driver will not haul any other workers, nor passengers. This seasonal position may also require driving a tractor, possibly pulling equipment, to do different agricultural tasks related to cultivating and harvesting sweet potatoes. Workers must pay close attention and follow all safety precautions and follow instructions given.

Special Requirements:

Applicants must be 18 years or older and have a valid Drivers License with clean record. Applicants need a minimum of one year experience of truck driving while hauling produce. Applicants also need to be familiar with agricultural machinery & safety of (and harm it can do to themselves or others), as well as work in agricultural fields & have some knowledge of food safety but also needs to understand the seriousness of working in extreme climates especially heat. There is a lifting requirement of up to 60 lbs. Job can be physically demanding, requiring attention to detail, the ability to work effectively and follow instructions given and adaptability to varying work & extreme climate environments. Awareness of your surroundings and of all agricultural machinery safety is very important, as well as food safety.
