Job Duties:
Crops/Commodities: potatoes. Drive tractors and planters, and operate other mechanized farm equipment to plant, cultivate, and harvest potatoes. Use farm equipment to cut, pull, dig, thresh, clean, chop, bag, or bundle potato crop. Load/unload harvested potatoes or other materials manually or with mechanized equipment such as conveyors, or handtrucks. Potato line forklift operator will need to follow all food safety standards while working in the potato shed. The forklift operator should be able to safely and conscientiously operate forklifts in both an indoor setting (on a flat concrete floor & dock) and an outdoor setting (on dirt/gravel terrain, on the level and with some uphill/downhill inclines). The forklift operator will be transporting potatoes in one ton tote bags or in wooden bins. This person must be able to work flexible hours during the harvest season based on the daily harvesting plan. This person will be part of a team, and may need to assist other team members by filling in at tying bags, hanging bags, or helping on the grading line. At the end of the shift each day, all team members work together to do a daily cleanup, both inside and outside the potato shed. The potato line grader will need to follow all food safety standards while working on the packing line to remove “pick outs” and any other foreign items from the good potatoes. “Pick outs” may include, but are not limited to rotten/cut/misshapen/damaged/scabby/green potatoes. This person must be able be on their feet and stand in one place for extended periods of time, and they must be able to work flexible hours during the harvest season based on the daily harvesting plan. This person will be part of a team, and they may need to assist other team members by filling in at tying bags, hanging bags, or helping out wherever else is needed as determined by the line supervisor. At the end of the shift each day, all team members work together to do a daily cleanup, both inside and outside the potato shed. The potato line bag hanger will need to follow all food safety standards while working in the potato shed. The bag hanger will need to be able to lift and move wooden pallets from a stack onto the bagging platforms. They will then hang pretied tote bags from 4 hooks above the pallet on the bagging platform, and they will operate the bagger to raise the next empty bag into the filling position. While the bags are filling, this person may be tying bags so that they have a supply ready to use, they may be checking on bin levels for “Pick outs” or on the “B” or “Chef” lines, or they may be asked to assist on the grading line. This person must be able to be on their feet for extended periods of time, and they must be able to work flexible hours during the harvest season based on the daily harvesting plan. This person will be part of a team, and they may need to assist other team members by filling in on the grading line or helping out wherever else is needed as determined by the line supervisor. At the end of the shift each day, all team members work together to do a daily cleanup, both inside and outside the potato shed. Employer-paid post-hire random, upon suspicion, and post-accident drug testing required. Workers must operate all equipment properly and in a manner that protects operator, others, the employer's products and property. Failure to comply with safety requirements and operating instructions may result in disciplinary action up to and including immediate termination. Must wear assigned personal protective equipment when required. Must report for work daily wearing work clothing and boots or other durable foot wear. Workers wearing clothing inappropriate for work will not be permitted to start work. Outdoor work required when plants are wet, or during light rain, snow, moderate winds, direct sun, high humidity and extreme temperatures. Temperatures in fields during working hours may vary.
