Job Duties:

Workers will perform assigned duties as instructed by their supervisor. Duties may vary from time to time. Fruit Harvesting: Following the Supervisors instructions, the worker will place a picking sack over their shoulder and carry a 18' ladder from the field truck to the area of the grove to be harvested. The picking sack is a canvas bag equipped with a shoulder strap for support and opening for the insertion of fruit and removal of fruit. A fully loaded sack weighs approximately 80 to 100 pounds, depending upon the size, condition, and variety of fruit. A ladder is placed against a tree within reach of the fruit in a leaning position. The ladder should be in a secure position to prevent slipping or falling and possible injury to themselves or other workers. The worker should take care not to break limbs, damage the tree, knock off fruit, or interfere with other workers. Workers will remove fruit from the tree and place into the pick sack. When the sack is full it is taken to the fruit tub located nearby. The fruit is dropped into tub, and the harvesting process is repeated. To perform this type of work, the worker must be able to work outside for at least 8 hours per day in various weather environments including high heat and humidity conditions. No specialized knowledge or skills are required, but workers are expected to have physical strength and endurance to repeat the harvesting process rapidly and make a large number of trips to the nearby fruit tub each day. Fruit harvesting activities will be paid at the higher of the adverse effect wage rate, the prevailing wage rate, or the applicable minimum wage rate per hour worked (or) the applicable piece rate offered for the quantity and variety of fruit harvested. It is estimated that workers will spend about 70% of their worktime performing fruit harvesting activities and about 30% of their worktime performing general farm labor activities discussed below. General Farm Labor Activities: At times, or when harvesting work is not available, and following supervisor instructions, workers may be required to perform general farm labor activities such as mowing, weeding, vining, sprouting, soil drenching, tree planting, re-standing, trimming, hand fertilizing, tree injection with Oxytetracycline (OTC), spraying herbicide and pesticides, and irrigation repair. In addition, workers may clean and assist in the repair and maintenance of farm equipment such as tractors, Goats/Loaders, trucks, buses, trailers, and other harvesting tools and farm machinery. At times, and after hurricanes and tropical storms, grove cleanup activities such as debris removal, weeding, tree standing, and vining may be required. In addition, cleaning and repairing minor damage to Company provided worker housing to maintain a clean and safe living area may be required. No specialized knowledge or skills are required to perform general farm labor activities. Workers should be able to use small hand tools such a shovel, rake, hoe, pruning shears, portable sprayers, hammers, battery powered drills and other small hand tools. To perform this kind of work, the worker must be able to work outside for at least 8 hours a day in various weather environments including high heat and high humidity conditions. General farm labor activities will be paid at the higher of the adverse effect wage rate, the prevailing wage rate, or the applicable minimum wage rate per hour worked.
