- Job Duties:
- Assist with daily farm functions including but not limited to the following: Operate various farm equipment (tractors, farm trucks, tile trencher, backhoe, excavator, etc.) for planting and other fieldwork. Combining, fertilizing, and spraying. Load/unload trucks. May involve climbing in and out of trenches, climbing ladders, walking long distances in farm fields, bending to connect tile fittings, and carrying parts from vehicles or storage trailers. Maintain machinery, i.e., change fluids in equipment, rotate tires, clean grain bins, wash vehicles, change brakes, check tire pressure, general maintenance, etc. Ground maintenance on farm and/or housing, i.e., weed eating, mowing. Maintain/clean shop area. Perform labor-intensive farm tiling work for others: connect plastic corrugated tile lines in trenches to drain wet areas, using shovels for detail digging that cannot be done by machine. Assist in operating and/or work alongside self-contained trenching machine with laser-guided equipment to ensure correct elevation for tile placement. Work may involve long days in heat or cold depending on weather; rain days typically spent repairing and maintaining equipment in preparation for the next day’s work. No smoking allowed. Precondition and maintain cattle: Monitor birthing of baby calves, hay all cattle, haul water to cattle, mix feed, monitor health, vaccinate, rotate cattle between pastures. Operate feed truck/pay loader. Clean pens. Maintain fence. Manure hauling. May haul cattle to market. Crops: corn, soybeans, alfalfa, oats
