Job Duties:
Field Workers: Lemons and Avocados to perform the following duties: Planting, pruning, crop maintenance, tractor driving harvesting, and clean-up. Tractors have gross weight capacity under 26,001 lbs and do not require a commercial driver license to operate. Heavy labor of picking lemons and avocados, as per color and size requirements. Climbing 3-point ladder as needed to pick fruit. Employee will be using proper shears for picking lemons and avocados. Cutting, not pulling, the lemons/avocados with hand shear. Putting fruit into bag sack, which is carried on the front of the body, with straps around the shoulder and back for support. Sack full of fruit can weigh up to 65 lbs. Sack is then emptied into bin in a manner instructed by supervisor. This is repeated until bin is full. Employee will need to walk around the tree, under the tree, and inside the tree and from a ladder to pick the appropriate fruit. Employees will be wearing safety protection gloves, and protective sleeves. Employees will be expected to follow the directions and techniques specific to avocado trees from the supervisor. Start times vary depending on the weather (fog or heavy dew). Fruit cannot be picked until it is dry on the outside. May repair and maintain farm vehicles, implements, and mechanical equipment but only basic repairs and maintenance. The job duties include planting, pruning, crop maintenance, tractor driving, harvesting, clean-up, weed abatement using, long handled hand tools weed wacker, machete, and chemical spraying with proper training. For weeding, the employer will abide by California Code Regulations at Title 8, Section 3456.

Special Requirements:
1 month of citrus and/or avocado harvest work experience. Workers must be able to lift 65 lbs. frequently. No smoking or illegal weapons or controlled substances in the fields or in the houses. Cannot be color blind due to the need to distinguish colors of crops. Able to stoop, bend, and work in cold and wet conditions. Able to use tools such as pruning shears, grape knives, hand saws, weed eaters, hedgers, shovels. Workers may use chains saws. Safety use and training provided by employer. Workers must abide by Employer housing rules. Ability to understand and communicate in English or Spanish is required for training and safety purposes. (i.e., Workers must listen to, understand, and follow instructions of Employer supervisors and managers.)
