Job Duties:
Operate grain bin system: The grain bin systems are on 3 different locations on our farm. There are 21 bins in total. Each bin must be checked on a weekly basis for moisture, temperature and proper function. The results are logged for each bin system. The information determines which equipment (fans, heaters or stir augers) to be turned on or off or moved from one bin to another. The grain must be a certain moisture and temperature to haul to the feed mill. The feed mill will take a predetermined amount of loads per week. The employees have to make sure the grain is ready to ship. Maintenance on grain bin system requires: oil changes, tire changes, proper tire monitor, maintain grain bin system area to be clean. All spills picked up and processed. All litter picked up and removed. Maintain any breaks or leaks with the grain bin system. Notify the manager of any breaks or leaks with the grain bin system. Weekly lube of the grain bin system. Check the grain bin system after each weather event. Climbing up to the top checking each lid looking for leaks. All grain equipment must be serviced and logged well. Loading of grain haul truck and trailers: The grain hauling truck must be inspected for road use before loading with grain. The tires have to be checked for the proper air, the oils must be checked as well as the truck needs to be filled with fuel. Any problems with brakes will be addressed as needed. Once the truck is ready the employee will check the trailer. It must be empty and clean before loading. Once the bin is low, then we insert equipment to clean the floor. It is called a sweep auger. It goes from the center of the grain bin to the outside wall. It draws the grain to the center of the bin where there is a hole to take the grain to the elevator to the chain to the truck. When the sweep is in place, we need multiple people in to get that dusty job done. The men use scoop shovels and push brooms to move the grain to the sweep auger. We do this for all 21 bins. Basic administrative tasks related to agricultural operations, including but not limited to recordkeeping, recording maintenance activities, documenting grain bin conditions, maintaining inventory records and doing research will be required.
