- Job Duties:
- Feed and water livestock and monitor food and water supplies. Herd livestock to pastures for grazing or to scales, trucks, or other enclosures. Maintain heated watering system. Maintain equipment, machinery, buildings, pens, yards, and fences. Move equipment or livestock from one location to another on the farm. Shift animals between grazing areas to ensure that they have sufficient access to food. Patrol grazing lands on horseback or using all-terrain vehicles. Operate snow removal equipment in order to operate feed wagons. Drive to town for cattle supplies on occasion. Remove ice formed in water. Set metal or wooden posts in upright positions in postholes. Measure and lay out fence lines and mark posthole positions, following instructions, drawings, or specifications. Dig postholes, using spades, posthole diggers, or power-driven augers. Assemble gates, and fasten gates into position, using hand tools. Stretch wire, wire mesh, or chain link fencing between posts, and attach fencing to frames. Report any mechanical problems encountered with vehicles. Inspect and maintain vehicle supplies and equipment, such as gas, oil, water, tires, lights, or brakes, to ensure that vehicles are in proper working condition.
