- Workers will perform assign duties as instructed by their supervisor.
Workers must have the correct type of license required by State and Federals laws, and drivers responsible for transporting workers will be required to have a valid and unexpired Federal Farm Labor Contractor or Federal Farm Labor Contractor Employee Registration with driving authorization. Will be responsible for operating the vehicles used to move crops on the farm. Must be able to safely operate the buses that are used to transport workers to and from work sites. Operate forklifts and equipment used to move supplies and harvesting equipment in the field. Maintain harvest equipment. Must be able to reach, bend and lift items weighing 100 pounds.
The alternative work if needed will be to assist with general farm work and the manual labor in the field.
Strawberry and Broccoli Planting: While carrying a bag of plants, worker will walk down row, while bending, and place one or two plants into each hole in the plastic as instructed and firm dirt around plant.
Strawberry Harvest: Workers will move down assigned rows picking all ripe berries, grading berries while harvesting, taking care to sort and pack containers by size, shape, color, quality and quantity as directed. Each worker must pick the plants clean of all ripe fruit, sort and pack all good berries into specified containers, within the box, according to very high quality standards as set forth in the Company Production and Quality Standard. Bad berries will be packed or disposed of as determined by the Supervisor. Each worker shall handle berries carefully to avoid bruising. Bruising will weaken the berry. Each harvesting worker is expected to move with the crew from row to row to maintain the efficiency level. Upon completion of each box picked, the worker will place their assigned numeric sticker on the box, take his/her packed box to the crate shed to be viewed for grade, receive credit on his/her assigned numeric sticker, and receive a new box with containers. Any containers that are over or under packed, or consist of poor quality fruit, will be returned to the worker for repacking. Upon completion of an assigned row, the worker will move to the next vacant row to be picked. Harvester may receive disciplinary notice if quality standards are an issue.
Broccoli Harvesting: Workers use a sharp knife to cut the broccoli head from the stalk, typically 5 to 8 inches below the crown, workers should trim excess leaves or stalks as they cut, as they harvest, workers should inspect each head to ensure quality, the harvested broccoli is placed on a crate to be transported to the warehouse.
Blueberry harvesting: Blueberries are picked when they are fully ripe: uniformly blue, plump, and easily detach from the plant, fields are picked multiple times during the season, every 3–7 days, because berries ripen unevenly, Workers move row by row, picking ripe berries by hand, either individually or by gently raking clusters into containers, workers use small buckets strapped around their waists or necks to collect berries.
Field Maintenance: workers will tie, stake and prune plants, clean micro jets and remove plastic drip lines, using hands or a hoe workers will remove dead plants and weeds.
The worker in order to perform this kind of work must be able to work outside for at least 6 hours a day in all kinds of weather and be in a possession of the requisite physical strength and endurance, working quickly and skillfully with their hands repeatedly, The employer will provides the tools necessary (if applicable) to perform the described job duties without charge to the worker. Employer may deduct the reasonable cost of damages and/or replacement of tools and/or equipment if such repair or replacement results from willful neglect or gross negligence after the damage has occurred and after gaining the employee's written authorization to make the deduction.
