Job Duties:
Celery: Cutter will be taken to designated field. The Cutter will line up in the designated celery rows. Workers will then proceed to bend over each celery stalk and cut. After cutting each stalk, they will inspect it and cut and trim bottom and top of the stalk, workers will then lay stalks on a stainless steel table that will be continually pushed behind the cutter as they proceed on their rows, workers will never exceed to put more than 8 to 10 stalks of celery on the table at any given time; packers will be behind the stainless steel table packing the celery as the cutters set the celery on the table. The celery orders will be anywhere from a 7-8 inch stalk and a 12-13 inch stalk, workers should always keep in mind that they need to meet Duda Farm Fresh Foods, Inc quality Standards. Meeting these standards is a very important part of the job; workers will have 5 days to learn the quality Standards. In order to be able to keep up with the machine, A Celery Cutter cuts a minimum of 600 stalks per hour and we expect any new Celery Cutter to meet the same minimum within the first 5 days of work. Celery Transplanting: Workers will load and unload 40 lb. celery transplants trays, grabbing a tray of transplants, they will go down the rows ½ mile long, using the tool provided, workers will bend over and make a hole on the ground 6 to 9 inched apart depending on the supervisors instructions and will place a celery plant in the hole, making sure they put a plant in every hole,. Workers will plant in 2 rows at a time, to their right and to their left; this job requires a one month experience. Workers will need to rearrange aluminum irrigation pipes 30 feet x 4 or 5 inches. Hand Weeding: Workers will remove weeds by use of a hoe from the walk-way and remove all weeds growing around plants by hand. Workers will remove weeds from the growing area, by raking piles of debris and dispose of it as instructed. Other Vegetables: Once at the picking location, doing a row at a time, workers will move down the rows plucking/ pulling vegetables from the ground/plants and putting them in containers. Once the container is full the worker will take it to the truck and dump the container. The worker will go back to his picking area and fill his bucket/bushel up again, repeating the process through the work day. Workers will also do field packing. Corn: corn puller will first be taken to designated field ready to be cut and harvested for that day. Once the corn puller is properly ready for work, the corn puller will line up in corn rows designated for him to pull. The worker will then proceed to stand in his or her area and bend over to each corn stalk and snap off ears of corn that are available to pull with his hands. After snapping off ears of corn, he will inspect them and then throw them onto tables that are located on the corn harvesting machine that will be moving behind the corn pullers as they continue to move forward in their designated rows. Everyday there will be different corn orders, there will be days when it will contain certain specifications on what needs to be cut, for example when dealing with first and secondary ears of corn etc depending on what the corn stalks have on them. The worker will be pulling corn, always keeping in mind that he will always have to meet company quality standards. Meeting these standards is a very important part of the job and the corn puller will have five days to train for these quality standards and the quantity of work expected from them and any other co-worker doing the same job. A corn pullers should harvests a minimum of 50 boxes of corn per hour in order to be able to move along with the machinery that will be continually advancing behind them; we expect any new corn puller to meet the same minimum within the first 5 days of work.
