Job Duties:

The sheep herder must be able to handle all aspects of flock care and management. Duties include feeding and watering the flock, protecting the animals from predators, and examining sheep to detect illness, injury, or disease. The herder must be able to administer medications and vaccinations as needed and rotate the flock between grazing areas. Additional responsibilities include assisting with lambing, docking, castrating, and branding, as well as setting up and moving portable fencing or working with herding dogs when required. The position also requires maintaining accurate records of flock movements, births, deaths, and treatments. Work hours are irregular and may include nights, weekends, and holidays, depending on the needs of the flock. More than 50% of the workday in the work contract period will be completed on the range.

Job requires a regular drivers license. Must be willing to work outdoors in extreme outdoor weather. Work requires long, irregular hours including nights, weekends, and holidays as flock needs dictate. 3 months Experience with sheep handling, herding, and care.
