- Job Duties:
- Feed and water livestock across different pastures and monitor food and water supplies, troughs, pumps, and lines. Maintain water troughs, supplies, pumps, and lines used to provide water to the cattle in the fields. Place, monitor, and maintain salt and mineral licks in pastures and feeding areas for cattle. Maintain fencing around pastures and report to the direct supervisor on any weak spots or areas that need repair. Help with calving heifers. Perform duties related to livestock reproduction, such as breeding animals within appropriate timeframes, performing artificial inseminations, and helping with animal births. Maintaining divides between pastures. Maintain growth, feeding, production, and cost records. Maintaining pastures and preparing the ground for occupation by cattle. Move equipment or livestock from one farm location, pasture, or worksite to another, manually, or using trucks or carts. Groom, clip, trim, or castrate animals, dock ears and tails. Clean stalls, pens, and equipment, using disinfectant solutions, brushes, shovels, water hoses, or pumps. Inspect and maintain equipment, machinery, buildings, pens, yards, and fences. Segregate animals according to weight, age, color, and physical condition. Mark livestock to identify ownership and grade, using brands, tags, paint, or tattoos. Herd livestock to pastures for grazing or to scales, trucks, or other enclosures. Drive trucks to haul water, supplies, tools, livestock, and farmworkers.
