Employees will be responsible for the daily care of hogs and will be required to clean and disinfect buildings/confinements. Herd livestock to scales, trucks, or other enclosures. Loading and unloading livestock on a regular basis, Ensure the safety and wellbeing of the animals. Examine animals to detect illness, injury, or disease, and to check physical characteristics, such as rate of weight gain. Segregate animals according to weight, age, color, and physical condition. Maintain growth, feeding, production records. Provide medical treatment, such as administering medications and vaccinations, or arrange for veterinarians to provide more extensive treatment. Mix feed, additives, and medicines in prescribed portions. Workers will be expected to maintain and assist with livestock feeding systems, ensuring livestock are fed and watered according to respective protocols. Workers will frequently monitor equipment to make sure feed and water dispensers are not plugged, empty, or dirty. Clean-up site. Clean stalls, pens, and equipment, using disinfectant solutions, brushes, shovels, water hoses, or pumps. The worker may perform repairs and maintenance to buildings, fences, and other structures as needed The job requires working around livestock and the strong smell of manure. Must speak and understand English.
