Tasks will involve the operation and maintenance of farming equipment such as tractors, windrowers and choppers. Tasks will further involve segregation of bales based on quality differences. Job duties will include: attach farm implements such as plows, discs, sprayers, or harvesters to tractors, using bolts and hand tools, operate tractors, operate other farm equipment, load and unload crops or materials, manually or using conveyors, forklifts, or transfer augers, load hoppers, containers, or conveyors to feed machines with products, using forklifts, transfer augers, suction gates, shovels, or pitchforks, manipulate controls to set, activate, and adjust mechanisms on machinery, observe and listen to machinery operation to detect equipment malfunctions, position boxes or attach bags at discharge ends of machinery to catch products, removing and closing full containers, attach equipment extensions or accessories, load crops and unload crops, operate equipment to harvest crops, drive pickup trucks to haul crops, supplies, and tools, inspect, adjust, and complete routine maintenance and repairs on equipment. Workers repair, replace, or adjust defective parts using hand tools, and other equipment. They also test and replace components, using meters and soldering tools, and repair or replace mechanical and structural parts, such as engines, pipes, and sheet metal. In addition, they adjust equipment and vehicle components to ensure optimal performance and lubricate machinery to keep it functioning efficiently. They also drive trucks, including tractor-trailer combinations, to transport tools, equipment, and materials for on-site repairs. Routine vehicle inspections are essential to ensure that mechanical, safety, and emergency equipment are in good working order, and they adjust routes using GPS or navigation systems to optimize fuel efficiency and minimize emissions. Workers also inspect trailers post-unloading to ensure no damage has occurred. The employer, at its sole discretion, may grant pay increases based on factors such as performance, longevity, and/or experience.
