Job Duties:
Workers will perform various duties associated with row crop and dairy operation. Duties are associated with the production of wheat, soybeans, cotton, tobacco and dairy production. Work is performed under the direction of the farm owner or manager and requires attention to animal health, safe handling practices, and seasonal production demands. Job duties include hauling tractor trailers, greenhouse preparation, cultivating, preparing rows for planting, planting, fertilizing, harvesting, spraying, irrigating, loading & unloading of tobacco bales, delivery of product to market, tractor driving, & general farm work. Workers may repair fencing. Workers may repair and maintain farm vehicles, implements, and mechanical equipment by servicing, adjusting, testing machines, devices, and moving parts. Workers may observe and listen to machinery operation to detect equipment malfunctions. Worker will be required to perform a variety of duties found in SOC Code 53-3033 Light Truck Drivers such as: Drive a light vehicle, such as a box truck, with a capacity of less than 26,001 pounds Gross Vehicle Weight (GVW), primarily to pick up product from farm and deliver. May load and unload vehicle. No CDL is required per NCDMV requirements. Workers will transport dairy product in box trucks with a GVW less than 26,001 pounds. Duties include: Driving covered farm vehicles, inspecting, maintaining & cleaning farm vehicles and equipment. Workers will drive and control box trucks to transport fluid milk from dairy operation to delivery locations. Workers will operate inside coolers and freezers where product is stored. Workers will also drive semis to transport milk product, grain, feed and other materials to various destinations, including farms, delivery locations, elevators and processing facilities. Workers will be responsible for loading, transporting, and unloading these materials in compliance with all applicable federal and state environmental and safety regulations. Workers may drive on public and private roads. Workers shall: Obey traffic laws and follow established traffic and transportation procedures. Report any mechanical problems encountered with vehicles, Verify the contents of inventory loads against shipping papers, Inspect and maintain vehicle supplies and equipment, such as gas, oil, water, tires, lights, or brakes, to ensure that vehicles are in proper working condition, Read maps and follow written or verbal geographic directions, Load and unload trucks, vans, or automobiles, Present bills and receipts and collect payments for goods delivered or loaded, Maintain records, such as vehicle logs, records of cargo, or billing statements, in accordance with regulations, Drive vehicles with capacities under three tons to transport materials to and from specified destinations, such as railroad stations, plants, residences, offices, or within industrial yards, Turn in receipts and money received from deliveries, Use and maintain the tools or equipment found on commercial vehicles, such as weighing or measuring devices, Report delays, accidents, or other traffic and transportation situations to bases or other vehicles, using telephones or mobile two-way radio, Perform emergency repairs, such as changing tires or installing light bulbs, fuses, tire chains, or spark plugs.
