Job Duties:

Kirkland Feedyard has the capacity to hold up to 25,000 cattle. With approximately 300 pens and 3 hospital areas. The general maintenance’s primary daily duty would be to check all of the hospitals every morning and remove the dead cattle from the hospital area. Any dead cattle in other areas would also be reported to General Maintenance. Before general maintenance removes any dead cattle, they must remove the ear tag from the calve and given to the cattle manager. The general maintenance worker will use a skid steer to pick up the dead cattle and take it to a predetermined location for an animal removal service to take and properly dispose of the carcass. Another daily duty for the general maintenance worker will be the cleaning and repair of any feed bunks, fences, and pens that need to be repaired. The general maintenance worker would also be responsible for cleaning the manure out of pens with a skid steer, as well as washing and maintenance of water tanks. Kirkland Feedyard has 2 pits of silage that are about 400 yards from our feed mill. Each morning, the company hauls enough silage for the day’s usage to the feedmill. When needed and if available, the general maintenance worker would assist in the hauling of silage by driving a loader to load the dump truck and bring the silage from the pit to the feedmill. The general maintenance worker's supervisor will provide other miscellaneous tasks throughout the day.

driver requirements: training will be provided in how to use the skid loader. Lifting requirements: while the heavily lifting will be done by the skid loader, there will be situations where the general maintenance worker will need to position the item for optimal pick up with the loader. the general maintenance worker will also be carrying tools on occasion to make the needed repairs Extensive pushing or pulling: as with the lifting requirements, the maintenance worker may need to push or pull equipment or product for optimal pick up with loader. exposure to extreme temperatures: general maintenance will be going indoors and outdoors throughout the day in the winter and spring seasons.
