Job Duties:
Workers will perform assigned duties as instructed by their supervisor. Workers may be asked to operate vehicles; farm equipment; all tractors (in the field); implements on farm including but not limited to: disk, dual, do-all, chisel plow, bush hog, hipper, water trailer to water plants, and any other equipment related to the planting of crops. Workers will use the following tools and equipment: shovel, chainsaw, hammer, four-wheeler, tractor, high clearance sprayer, forklift, skid steer, combine, cotton picker and potato transplanter. Workers may do minor repairs, maintain, and clean all hand tools and mechanical equipment prior to and after use. Other job duties may include clearing ground of rocks, sticks & roots by hand, clear brush and trees with chain saw, minor field and fence maintenance, build and repair boxes for digger with wood, preparing the ground for planting, manually weeding fields by hand, or using hand tools, drain water from fields with hand tools and shovel when needed, move hay, load and unload boxes on trucks and trailers. Planting Sweet Potatoes: Covering potatoes with use of bedding machine & covering with plastic, removal of plastic once bedding is complete, cut slips by hand with knife, place in boxes to load & unload onto trucks and trailers, walk behind potato trans-planter and fill slips by hand, riding mechanical trans-planter and loading slips in planting cups, divining plants by hand. May clean potato warehouse/storage building/shop. May also plant, maintain, and harvest the following crops: purple hull peas, watermelons, beans, soybeans, squash, cotton, corn, and okra. May drive bus or truck to transport the workers to and from worksites and grocery store. Appropriate driver’s license required. Harvesting Sweet Potatoes: May be asked to drive tractor while pulling digger. Workers may be riding of mechanical sweet potato harvesting trailer pulled by a tractor where they will be pulling vines away from potatoes and sorting potatoes into bins also on a trailer. Workers must pay close attention and follow all safety precautions. May be asked to operate vehicles, farm equipment, tractors (in the field) while using implements such as skid steer/loader. Forklift, potato harvester and any other equipment related to cultivating and harvesting crops. May walk fields & harvest sweet potatoes by hand with use of bucket. Must be able to sort, grade, and pack potatoes by hand by size quality, or type while separating damaged & undersized potatoes as instructed by leader or supervisor. Load & unload boxes on trucks, trailer and sweet potatoes, harvesters. Use wood to built & repair boxes for digger with the use of nail guns/hammers. Workers must be able to work with minimum supervision. Other crops: workers may also plant, cultivate, harvest and maintain the following crops: corn, soybeans, purple hull peas, watermelon, beans, pumpkins, cotton.

Applicants must be 18 years or older. Employer may conduct a criminal background check on all new applicants for employment. It is recommended that you have experience with Agricultural Equipment and knowledge of Agricultural Field work due to safety reasons related to possible equipment injury, heat stroke possibility, and food safety. The ability of an employee to safely operate machinery and vehicles will be left up to the discretion of management. To ensure the safety of all employees, those interested in operating machinery must be able to communicate with & adequately follow instructions given by management. Management reserves the right to restrict employees from operational duties who do not show a proficiency to effectively communicate with management and may therefore place other employees safety at risk. No minimum education is required. Must be able to work with minimum supervision. The majority of the workday is spent on ones feet and outdoors.
