Job Duties:

This job requires nursery work by the worker. This is an application for Ornamental pot plants. Work duties include preparing soil and growth media, cultivating and otherwise participating in horticultural activities on acreage, in a nursery or in environmentally controlled structures such as a greenhouse or shed. Crops: Ornamental pot plants. These crops listed may or may not be planted and the employer is not limited to only these crops listed. All plants will be in Gallon buckets. There are general conditions of employment, general job specifications and individual requirements that are specific to each job duty. The Worker will perform any combination of the following duties: - Concerned with preparing soil and growth media. - Cultivating other otherwise participating in horticultural activities under close supervision on acreage, in nursery or in environmentally controlled structure such as a greenhouse and shed. - Hauls and spreads topsoil, fertilizer, and other materials to condition land and/or transplant. The Worker will perform any combination of the following duties: - Digs, rakes, prepare and transplant 1-25 gallon pots. - Plants, weeds, and waters plants, shrubs and trees. - When transplanting workers will use a hose to water plants. - Plants shrubs in containers; ties, bunches, roses , plants, shrubs and trees to fill orders. - Moves individual gallons shrubs and trees using wheelbarrow; digs up shrubs and trees. Workers will also use shovels to move dirt. - May be designated according to the employment establishment as ornamental grass (agriculture); greenhouse laborer (agriculture); nursery laborer (agriculture); rose-farm laborer (agriculture), etc. Other job specifications include: 1. Caring for trees in the nursery. 2. Work in nursery environment performing various job duties such as planting, potting, watering (by hose), and filling up flats. 3. Care for plants during growing process (hoeing/tilling/watering). 4. Load/unload gallons and orders onto/from truck. 5. Transport trees and shrubs weighing up to 70 pounds. 6. Worker will assist in planting and/or harvesting ornamental trees intended for wholesale market 7. Weeding, cleaning, and pruning trees. 8. Preparing land for planting, general maintenance of tools and agricultural equipment and other work that is directly related. Workers can also: 1. Drive tractors. 2. Spray fertilizer to control insects, fungus and weed growth, and diseases, using buckets. 3. Pack crops into gallons. 4. Repairing farm structures.

Special Requirements:

Worker must possess 2 months of nursery experience within the last year. 4e) Must be able to lift and/or load 65lbs. 4f) Work may take place when temperatures are below freezing and above 100 degrees Fahrenheit. 4g) May require extensive pulling and/or pushing of tools, wheelbarrows, gallons, etc. 4h) May require worker to sit and/or walk for extensive periods of time while sorting, picking, examining, weeding, transporting, pruning, etc. 4i) Workers will be required to stoop and/or bend over while performing farm labor such as weeding, irrigating, pruning, picking, removing debris, etc. 4j) There will be repetitive movements while performing most of the farm labor duties, for example picking, sorting, pruning, shoveling, weeding. etc.
