- The job specifications involve skilled farm labor for the purpose of preparing and performing duties for receiving potato seed for planting, planting the potato seed and crop growing activities.
The potato seed needs to be unloaded, graded, sized, cut, treated, and suberized prior to planting. This process involves operating conveyers, pilers, unloaders, bobcats, forklifts, seed treatment machines and seed cutting machines.
Other responsibilities include sorting, sizing and grading seed potatoes by hand, including sorting out green, rotten or other low quality seed potatoes as they pass on a conveyor. Cleaning potato storage bins.
Applying seed treatment to the potato seed. Notify supervisor of any potato quality issues. Use bobcat to unload seed potatoes or to move them around the farm. Find proper location for potatoes and use bobcat to move potatoes to
its designated areas.
Duties will include washing and disinfecting the potato storage locations where seed potatoes were kept. Preparing this area so that it is ready for harvest time operations.
Operating a potato planter. Performing basic maintenance on the potato planter.
Conducting field tillage and field hilling operations by operating tractors and other agriculture equipment.
Operate planter fillers and tender equipment.
Operating a farm provided work pickup or service vehicle in order to drive to the field/farming location or to pickup/deliver parts to the farming operation.
Operating potato agriculture equipment to prep the land for planting, including disks and chisel plows, hooking up tractor implements, troubleshooting equipment.
Operating technology on the equipment, including GPS guidance systems / autosteer, planter monitors, harvest monitors.
Bringing fertilizer tanks to the field by driving a pickup.
Mix and measure crop input chemicals for application.
Setting up and operating irrigation pumps and running irrigation.
During growing season, duties include monitoring the growth of the crop and any issues that may occur, conducting petiole and crop sampling, working on tillage equipment, including disks, chisel plows and tractors.
Hooking up implements to the tractors.
Set up, maintain, repair and operate harvest equipment, including washlines, conveyers, tractors, bobcats, windrowers, and harvesters.
Other general agriculture duties include monitoring fields for weeds, diseases and insects.
Digging potatoes by hand for sampling and sizing. Taking leaf and dirt samples.
Preparing farm site so the area is ready for harvest time operations. This includes installing washline and other potato handling equipment and conducting maintenance.
Preparing potato handling equipment and harvesters for operation.
Other duties include performing general basic maintenance. General farm work is also included.
Full time supervision is provided and all tools are provided at no cost. Workers must be able to sit for prolonged periods of time and work in extreme temperatures. Lifting objects up to 50 lbs., bending, twisting, and stooping regularly will be required.
