- Job Duties:
- We require a seasonal employee to assist with our diversified crop and cattle operation, which includes the production of corn, wheat, oats, beans, barley, soybeans, sunflowers, canola, flax, peas, mustard, and chickpeas, as well as the care and management of yearling cattle. Employees will assist with all seasonal job duties related to these commodities. Our farm and ranch operation experiences significantly higher labor demands during the spring, summer, and fall months. In addition to crop production, we graze yearling cattle on pasture from May through late September or October, with cattle spread across two counties and managed through rotational grazing. No grazing or rotational movement of cattle occurs during the winter months. A March start date is necessary to prepare equipment for the upcoming growing season, clean and process seed for planting, and manage grass cattle in the lot prior to turnout on summer pasture. As the season progresses, labor is required for planting, fertilizer application, pest and weed management, fence repair and maintenance, hay production for early and late-season grazing, rotational grazing activities, harvest, fall fieldwork, manure spreading, equipment cleanup, and winterization. These seasonal activities typically continue through late December. During the grazing season, additional labor is required to maintain fences, move cattle between pastures, monitor herd health, and doctor cattle as needed. There is no grazing activity during the winter months. Job duties include preparing fields for planting; attaching farm implements such as plows, discs, sprayers, planters, and harvesters to tractors using bolts and hand tools; and operating tractors, planters, sprayers, seed drills, manure spreaders, combines, irrigation equipment, and other farm machinery. Employees will engage in planting, weeding, spraying, cultivating, and harvesting activities; apply fertilizers and pesticide solutions to control insects, weeds, fungus, and crop diseases; and load and unload crops or materials manually or using conveyors, forklifts, transfer augers, hand trucks, shovels, or pitchforks. Additional duties include loading hoppers, containers, or conveyors; guiding product flow through machinery and removing damaged or diseased product as necessary; manipulating equipment controls; observing and listening to machinery operation to detect malfunctions; driving farm semi-trucks to haul crops, supplies, and tools; recording agricultural data as required; and performing routine inspections, maintenance, and minor repairs on farm equipment. The employer, at its sole discretion, may grant pay increases based on factors such as performance, longevity, and/or experience. Employer may also, at its sole discretion, offer performance-based incentive bonuses that are not guaranteed and are determined by the employer.
