Farm Worker will record information about crops, such as pesticide use, yields, or costs. Participate in the inspection, grading, sorting, storage, and post-harvest treatment of crops. Harvest plants, and transplant and label them. Harvest fruits and vegetables by hand. Inform farmers or farm managers of crop progress. Clean work areas and maintain grounds and landscaping. Feel plants' leaves and note their coloring to detect the presence of insects or disease. Dig, cut, and transplant seedlings, cuttings, trees, and shrubs. Trap and destroy pests, such as moles, gophers, and mice, using traps. Haul and spread topsoil, fertilizer, and other materials to condition soil, using wheelbarrows or carts and shovels. Workers will use tractors and implements to prepare soil, plant, cultivate, and harvest crops. Workers will remove weeds using hoes, shovels, and by hand. Workers will harvest crops by digging, cutting, picking and bunch crops by hand and with mechanical harvesters. Workers will work in greenhouses and transplant plants to the field with mechanical transplanters as well as setting up and moving irrigation equipment as needed. Workers will wash and pack harvested crops both in the field and packing shed. Workers will perform general maintenance and repair of tools and equipment as needed. Workers will care for animals and repair/maintain fences on an incidental basis.
Driving Duties – Produce Transportation: Operating refrigerated trucks to transport agricultural produce to market. On-duty driving time includes time spent loading, transporting, unloading produce, and completing required travel-related tasks. Drivers typically complete one (1) to two (2) regularly scheduled delivery trips per week, as well as additional shorter trips as operationally needed. Regular delivery routes include, but are not limited to: Minneapolis, MN (approximately 12 hours per trip), Madison, WI – Thursday (approximately 10 hours per trip), Madison, WI – Saturday (approximately 10 hours per trip).
Non-Driving Agricultural Support Duties: Workers may be assigned general agricultural support and maintenance tasks, including but not limited to general maintenance and minor repair of tools and equipment (e.g., changing oil, sharpening tools, and minor repairs).
