Job Duties:

Type of Work: All General Farm Labor Related to Farm Laborer Watermelon. Farm workers will assist with all aspects of growing watermelons including field preparation, plastic pulling, plastic placing, hand planting, spraying, fertilizing, hand harvesting as well as routine farm work. Duties may include tilling soil and applying fertilizers; transplanting, pulling weeds, thinning, or pruning crops; applying pesticides. Manually plant, cultivate, grow and harvest watermelon. Use hand tools, such as shovels, trowels, hoes, tampers, pruning hooks, shears, and knives. Cut watermelons from vine, lift selected watermelon, then pitch the watermelon to another worker who catches it and pitch to another worker that gently places them in the designated bin/transport vehicle. Participate in the post-harvest field maintenance of soil. Haul and spread topsoil, fertilizer, and other materials to condition soil using wheelbarrows. Repair farm fences, and other structures. All jobs will be done under extreme weather conditions, repetitive movements like bending, stooping and heavy lifting. Workers will also be raking, cleaning around shed areas, laying irrigation pipes, and digging ditches.

$100.00 per watermelons bus load, the estimated hourly wage equivalent is $12.50 based on average piece rate per hour. Actual piece rate of earnings depends on individual factors. Guaranteed hourly $12.27 for Domestic and $10.52 for H-2A.
