Job Duties:

The worker will perform crop and ancillary livestock-related duties primarily focused on the production of corn and soybeans, with some alfalfa. Duties include preparing fields and applying compost in the spring and fall; spreading compost, manure, and other livestock-generated nutrients to crop fields; and operating manure spreaders, lagoon pumps, agitators, trucks, and trailers. The worker will load and unload crops and agricultural materials manually or using conveyors, handtrucks, forklifts, transfer augers, hoppers, and containers; mix and load seeds, fertilizers, and chemicals into planters or sprayers; and apply fertilizer and pesticide solutions using hand sprayers to control weeds, insects, fungus, and crop diseases. The worker will operate, adjust, and maintain farm equipment such as tractors, seed drills, irrigation systems, center pivots, self-propelled mowers, shredders, and other towed or powered machinery used for planting, fertilizing, irrigating, mowing, and harvesting crops. Additional duties include attaching farm implements to tractors, irrigating soil using portable pipes or center pivot systems, maintaining pumps, ditches, and pipelines, driving trucks to haul crops, supplies, tools, or workers, observing machinery to detect malfunctions, performing routine servicing and minor repairs, and reporting equipment issues to supervisors.

Special Requirements:

Position requires three (3) months in farm equipment operating. General electrical and mechanical knowledge is strongly encouraged. Must have a regular driver's license or be able to obtain a regular driver's license. Must have ability to follow biosecurity policies. Must be able to lift and carry 75 pounds for 75 yards.
