- Job Duties:
- Position involves hands-on agricultural work required for the commercial production of live fish and the care and management of livestock, as well as the maintenance of associated farm facilities and equipment. Workers will operate a wide range of tractors and agricultural equipment, including tractors with implements, dozers, trackhoes, boats, and pond-oriented machinery. Aquaculture duties include positioning seine nets and sock nets on ponds to capture fish; operating and maintaining aerators and responding to aerator malfunctions; regularly monitoring pond oxygen levels using meters; performing standard water-quality tests; and taking action to stabilize water quality when needed. Workers will implement predator-control practices around ponds to reduce fish losses from birds and other wildlife. Additional duties include using hydraulic loader crane attachments to move fish from nets to live tanks; guiding fish movement into tanks; sampling, counting, and weighing fish; recording field data related to hatchery, harvesting, feeding, and water-quality activities; monitoring fish characteristics such as length, weight, growth, behavior, and signs of parasites or disease; feeding fish and making determinations regarding feed amounts, feed types, and feeding locations; and supporting breeding and hatchery operations, including sorting broodfish, administering hormone injections, stripping eggs, collecting sperm, adjusting incubation systems, and transporting fry or fingerlings to ponds. Workers will assist with pond management including draining, restocking, transferring fish, and monitoring and maintaining facility systems. Duties also include repairing and maintaining drains, levees, wells, and roads; performing grounds and facility maintenance; maintaining work logs, inventories, and maintenance records; and repairing equipment using tools including cutting torches and welding equipment as needed.
Livestock-related duties include checking, feeding, and caring for cattle; assisting with herd health and herd management activities; working and breeding cattle; monitoring cattle during calving and assisting with calving as needed; and performing general livestock facility and equipment maintenance. Workers will engage in pasture and forage management activities such as cutting and spraying pastures, monitoring forage conditions, and mending and maintaining fences. General farm labor includes routine repairs, upkeep of buildings and structures, and other related agricultural tasks as assigned. Workers must follow all directions from managers and supervisors and perform all tasks safely and efficiently.
There are few typical days and workers may be required to change duties and/or locations often and engage in various general functions. Daily duties may vary depending on crop, weather, and field conditions. The employer reserves the right to increase workers' pay or provide bonuses based on tenure, performance, or other factors that are solely based on the discretion of the employer.
