- Job Duties:
- Workers will perform assigned duties as instructed by their supervisor. Duties may vary from time to time. Planting, cultivating, & harvesting row crops and forage harvesting. Duties include but are not limited to: Workers may drive and operate farm machinery to plant, cultivate, fertilize, spray, harvest, transport crops to elevator or storage area in trucks, on the farm, no CDL required. This includes crops such as corn, rye grass, hay, silage, etc. Workers will perform seed corn receiving, silage, sorting, and dryer loading as it pertains to harvesting the crops. Other duties include loading seed into planters; spreading manure; properly mixing chemicals; loading chemicals into sprayers; helping with grain bin minor repair, maintenance, clean out, loading and unloading grain into pickup trucks, operating auges and grain conveying equipment, preparing scale tickets, and shoveling grain. Attach farm implements such as plow, disc, and drill to tractor and drive tractor in field to till soil and plant/cultivate crop. Perform variety of other duties such as drain water from fields with hand tools & shovels and tractors when needed, maintain/clean all hand tools & mechanical equipment prior to and after use. Perform tasks such as cutting, raking, and baling. Workers place grain onto conveyors to storage bins and elevators. Prepare barns, drain fields, prepare land for planting, and other work as directly related to the crop activities for which the worker is hired. General field and farm maintenance.
Cattle - Workers will perform any of the following tasks to attend to livestock on the farm: feeding, watering, herding, grazing, milking, castrating, branding, tagging, washing, weighing, catching, loading, examining for detection of disease and injuries, assisting in birth deliveries, administering worming, medications and vaccinations, cleaning and maintaining housing areas, and repairing fences, cattle guards, gates, and other structures or facilities used for housing, loading, or penning livestock. Assist in moving cattle to pens for routine work as well as from pasture to pasture for ample grazing. Assist with weed control on grazing areas (including noxious, invasive and poisonous plant species) which will include spraying pastures and fences. Monitor grazing areas for poisonous and/or noxious plants and take action to prevent livestock from consuming any identified. Move pregnant livestock at a pace sufficient to ensure they receive ample water/forage during daylight hours before bedding down at night. Maintain heated watering system; operate feed wagons. Mix feed and additives, fills feed troughs with feed and water for livestock; Examine animals to detect diseases and injuries; Vaccinate animals by placing vaccine in drinking water or feed using syringes and hypodermic needles; Apply medications to cuts and bruises; spray livestock with insecticide. Confine livestock installs washes, clips them to prepare them for calving, and assists veterinarian in the delivery of offspring. Binds or clamps testes or surgically removes testes to castrate livestock. Clip identifying notches or symbols on the animal, or brand animal, using branding iron to indicate ownership; clean livestock stalls and sheds using disinfectant solutions, brushes, and shovels. Workers may also milk cows when necessary. Maintain buildings and equipment for the livestock. Repair Fences, corral, and barn. Minor repairs and maintenance to existing barn buildings. Workers will perform general farm labor. Workers with driver license may be asked to drive workers from/to housing, worksite, and grocery store.
