Job Duties:

The position involves performing a wide range of manual agricultural labor duties that are exclusively hand labor in nature and do not require the operation of self-propelled field equipment. Workers will perform hand planting, transplanting, irrigating, fertilizing, weeding, hand mowing, harvesting, grading, and packing of various fruit, vegetable, sod, hay/straw, and flower crops. All tasks will be completed by hand or with the use of basic hand and limited power tools such as shovels, hoes, brooms, pruning tools, and picking containers to assist in these activities. Duties require frequent lifting and carrying of heavy objects and sustained physical activity throughout the workday. Greenhouse-related duties will include preparing greenhouse growing areas by hand, filling trays and containers with growing media, seeding and transplanting seedlings, spacing plants, and installing or adjusting plant supports. Workers will manually water crops using hoses or hand-operated irrigation systems, monitor drip irrigation lines, and apply fertilizers by hand according to established schedules. Additional greenhouse tasks include hand weeding, thinning, pruning, trellising, and training plants; monitoring plant growth and basic crop conditions; opening and closing vents, curtains, or sidewalls as directed to assist with temperature and humidity control; and cleaning, sanitizing, and organizing greenhouse benches, floors, trays, tools, and work surfaces. Workers will also assist with hand harvesting greenhouse-grown crops, grading and packing produce in designated packing areas, and maintaining sanitary conditions consistent with food safety practices. All greenhouse work will be performed manually without the use of self-propelled equipment. Job responsibilities also include general field and property cleanup, washing and sanitizing tools and equipment, maintaining orderly work areas throughout the growing season, and the general maintenance of washing, preparing, and painting farm equipment and buildings. Workers will not operate farm tractors, self-propelled field machinery, large trucks, or mechanical sod, bean, or crop harvesters; all crop production and harvest activities will be completed manually or with simple, non-self-propelled tools. Employees will participate in CSA harvesting and packing, including hand harvesting fresh produce, sorting, grading, packing, and preparing products for distribution. Additional duties include hand weeding, rolling, stacking, and installing turf grass; setting up irrigation systems by hand, including laying pipe, connecting drip irrigation, and digging or clearing ditches manually. Landscaping and farm maintenance tasks will include hand mowing and trimming, tree pruning and removal, and splitting, stacking, loading, and moving logs. Workers will also assist with livestock care by feeding and watering animals and cleaning animal pens and pastures. Livestock duties may also include assembling pens and sheds and installing fences. Production and work activities will take place in fields, greenhouses, packing and storage areas, shop areas, and animal pens, with all duties performed as manual labor in support of diversified agricultural operations.

Special Requirements:

2 months of experience is required. Job requires having or being able to obtain a drivers license within 30 days of hire. Basic English literacy skills are required. Applicants must have mechanical skills and abilities. Job will require periods when workers may be exposed to varying weather conditions and extensive pushing, pulling, sitting, walking, stooping, bending, or repetitive movements. Random criminal background checks may occur post-hire at the employers expense. These checks may be performed to ensure a safe housing and work environment for all workers.
