Job Duties:
Workers will perform manual labor tasks associated under the direct supervision of a field manager. Planting of fruits and vegetables: A tractor will go over the fields making holes for the plants, workers will grab a tray of plants from the truck, walking down the rows the worker will put one plants per hole, when finish with the tray, the worker will walk back to the truck and grab another tray of plants, repeating the process through the work day. Harvesting of Fruit and Vegetables: Once at the picking location, doing a row at a time, workers will move down the rows plucking the crop from the plants and putting them in a container. Once the container is full the worker will take the container to the truck and dump the content. The worker will go back to his picking area and fill his container up again, repeating the process through the work day. Pumpkin Harvesting: the worker will walk down the pumpkin field rows where the pumpkin will be harvested. The worker will first cut the vine off the pumpkin with a small knife. The worker will bend over harvesting the pumpkin which can vary in weight from 20lbs to 60lbs from the ground and tossing the pumpkin to the worker next to him and this worker will toss the pumpkin to the next worker and so on, until the pumpkin is then tossed to the person inside the bus who will place the pumpkin on the floor. Packing: When the bus is full, it will be taken to the packing house where the workers will unload the crops and put it in a conveyer belt that will transport the crops into the packing house where it will be separated by size, labeled and packed. Note: The Packing houses are located inside the Farms and at least 50% of the product processed belongs to the Fixed Site Employer. Other Related Duties: Workers may chop weeds from plants with a hoe, apply side dressing to tree wounds, drain fields, prepare land for planting, maintenance of tools and equipment and other work that is directly related to the crop and activites for which the worker is hired. Such work will be offered when climate or crop conditions preclude working in the primary activites stated above. General farm upkeep and maintenance such as painting, fixing, cleaning, and organizing out building and equipment. Some workers may be responsible stacking produce on pallets. Some workers are responsible for picking fresh fruit. The fruit goes straight to the customer and is not sorted first and is expected to be good quality. The worker must be able to work outside for at least 6 hours a day in all kinds of weather (including heat, cold, and light rain) and be in possession of the requisite physical strength and endurance to work quickly and skillfully with their hands repeatedly at a sustained pace to meet the production standards demonstrated by the supervisor. The employer will provide all necessary tools and equipment at no charge to the worker. However, the employer may deduct the reasonable cost of damages or replacement of such tools if the loss or repair results from the worker's willful neglect or gross negligence; such deductions will only occur after the damage has taken place and after obtaining the employee's written authorization. At its sole discretion, the employer may pay a higher wage rate than the stated AEWR to any worker based on individual performance, specialized experience, or tenure with the operation. This voluntary higher pay is intended to reward performance and does not alter the fundamental entry-level nature of the job requirements.
