Job Duties:

Nursery Labor: Worker will be performing tasks associated with nursery stock planted in containers and in field. Worker will perform tasks to maintain various shade trees, shrubs, crab trees, birch and evergreens. Worker will prepare fields/soil for planting. Worker will use shovel to plant, transplant and harvest nursery stock. Worker will burlap stock according to supervisor instructions. Other Nursery Hand Tasks: Field Maintenance: worker will pull weeds by hand, cut grass using hand tool or mower and other clean up tasks such as pick up rocks, brush, wire and garbage. Tree and Shrub Maintenance: worker will stake trees, trim using loppers or chainsaw, thinning or straightening. Worker will shear tops and limb tips from trees to control growth, increase limb density, and improve shape as directed by supervisor. Planting: Worker will hand plant trees, using care not to break and damage young trees. Trees are both planted mechanically with a planter and by hand. Worker will straighten tree and compact soil around tree. Worker will by hand and using hand tools and using loader with attached auger, repair fences and will clear borders by clearing or trimming trees. Irrigation install & maintenance: Worker will install irrigation lines, headers, mainline, valves, micro sprinklers, and other irrigation equipment. Worker will be required to check and maintain all working components of irrigation system and fix leaks as directed by supervisor. Herbicide Application: Worker will be required to spray the ground in assigned area using backpack sprayer or tractor with attached sprayer as directed by supervisor. Worker must be able to read measurements including quarts, pints, ounces, and accurately combine chemicals according to supervisors' instructions. Worker will be required to wear personal protective equipment in accordance with company policies. Worker will complete preparation tasks including measuring and pouring chemicals into tank. Additional training will be provided. Worker will hand harvest nursery trees and shrubs. Worker will bale trees by the process of hand tying branches up with string. After the tree is spaded out of the ground, worker will place meatal frame lined with burlap under the tree spade. Workers will pin the burlap using nails then tie the metal basket around the trunk of the tree followed by crimping of the metal basket by using a metal T-bar. Worker will assist loading finish product, weighing up to 50 lbs. onto truck or trailer to be removed from field. Pay will be hourly.

Special Requirements:

Job requires worker to complete tasks in care and maintenance and production of nursey stock. Experience Requirement: 2 verifiable months of commercial agriculture experience required. Applicants must furnish job references from recent employers within the last 3 years establishing acceptable prior experience. Employer reserves right to conduct for cause, non-discriminatory drug testing at Employer expense. Drug test will not be utilized as pre-employment tool. Job offered requires worker be available for work for entire employment period.
