Job Duties:
All applicants must be able, willing and qualified to perform the work described in the job order and must be available for the entire period of employment specified in Section A.3 & A.4. Workers are needed to perform any combination of the following tasks daily: Planting seeds, transplanting, maintaining and harvesting various vegetable crops, mushrooms, and fruits. Workers must have a working knowledge of and ability to perform various tasks required in greenhouse tomato productions, including harvesting, grading, suckering lowering, clipping, and thinning. Workers will perform field work including planting, transplanting, weeding thinning, hoeing, and other tasks required in the planting, maintaining and harvesting of various vegetable and fruit crops as well as collecting eggs. Workers will sort, wash, pack and otherwise prepare various crops for storage and shipping, as well as be capable of transporting various crops from field to farm and/ or retail stand with provided harvest vehicle. Workers will load and unload trucks and other farm vehicles, set up and operate various irrigation equipment, and cut brush and other vegetation in and around the fields, buildings and equipment. Workers may use hand tools such as but not limited to: shovels, trowels, hoes, tampers, pruning hooks, shears, hand saws, knives, and irrigation pumps. Workers must be able to operate agricultural equipment safely, and work in various extreme weather conditions from damp, cold spring and fall days to hot, humid summer days. The work assigned will be physically demanding, long periods of standing, walking, bending, kneeling, and stooping for long periods of time will be required. Workers must be able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds on a frequent basis. Workers may be asked to operate trucks or other multi-purpose vehicles to transport workers from housing (whether on or off farm) to the farm properties; haul tools, supplies, or crops; transport workers from place to place around the farm properties during the workday (including on public roads to reach farmer's fields); and/or transport workers to the grocery store, bank, or laundry facilities on an as needed basis. Workers that are requested to drive will be required to possess a valid driver’s license; no worker will be rejected for not having a driver's license. Workers who do drive will still perform the same field work and other duties as non-driving workers; driving is not a primary duty. Workers will work a 8-hour shift within the 7:00 AM to 7:00 PM window Monday through Friday. This totals 40 hours per week. The 7:00 AM to 7:00 PM range accounts for farm conditions (e.g., weather or crop readiness) to ensure workers complete the required hours. Workers will not work a full 12-hour shift. Workers may be requested to work on a Sunday when the need arises. Workers will be given at least a 30-minute lunch break which is staggered between 11am - 1pm as decided by the workers and management. Workers may choose where to eat their lunch and return to work after their 30 minutes are up. Workers will also receive a 15-minute break in the morning and a 15-minute break in the afternoon as agreed upon by the worker and management. The daily or weekly work schedules may vary due to weather, sunlight, temperature, crop conditions, and other factors. The employer will notify workers of any change to the schedule. The employer will provide 1 day of training and allow 2 days of work for the workers to satisfactorily perform duties described in this job description. The employer will furnish to workers without cost all tools and equipment required to perform all duties assigned. Workers should report for work with their own suitable clothing and must be able to take directions in simple English. Due to safety concerns, there will be NO cell phones used during working hours. Workers must be willing to keep a positive work attitude and be respectful towards other workers and management.
