Job Duties:
Farm Laborer: GENERAL FARM MAINTENANCE: Worker will complete farm maintenance tasks that include painting, power washing, mowing, cleaning, sanitizing or repairing harvest containers, repairing equipment, cleaning and storing hand tools and other general farm maintenance tasks. Worker will clean inside and around barn, cooler, greenhouse, warehouse, and housing. Assist with fences, and trellis posts and wires. Assist with construction and maintenance of season extension structures such as mini-tunnels and hoophouses. Pay will be hourly. FIELD DEBRIS REMOVAL: Worker will complete farm clean up tasks in field and orchard that include picking up and removing rocks, roots, brush, irrigation, plastic mulch, old string, wire, and garbage as instructed by Employer. Pay will be hourly. WEEDING: Workers will remove weeds from crop areas in fields to promote healthy crop growth. Weeding may be performed by hand or through the use of hoes and other hand-held tools, taking care not to damage crops. Workers may also assist with mechanical and tractor-driven cultivation used for weed control and soil maintenance, as directed by the supervisor. Weeding duties may include a variety of crops grown by the employer. Pay will be hourly. FIELD + SOIL PREPARATION: Worker will complete tasks such as: spreading compost, fertilizer, and soil amendments. Worker will rake beds, lay down plastic mulch and irrigation tape. Workers will use hand tools including broad forks to loosen soil and may also use a 2 wheel tractor for mowing, rototilling, and other soil preparation. Worker may operate equipment (pickup truck, Kawasaki mule, or bucket tractor) to complete tasks related to field preparation (spreading amendments, removing rocks & roots, rototilling with rototiller, installing plastic mulch with bed layer. Pay will be hourly. SORTING: Worker will be required to sort through harvested boxes and remove debris including sticks and leaves. Quality issues must be reported to supervisor. Pay will be hourly. PLANTING: Workers will transplant plants by hand using a hand shovel and other hand tools as needed. Plants must be handled carefully to avoid damage while removing them from trays and placing them into the soil. Workers will ensure the root structure is fully covered with soil and that plants are set at the proper spacing and depth according to crop requirements and supervisor instruction. Workers may assist with mechanized transplanting using equipment such as a water wheel transplanter. In this process, one worker may operate the tractor while other workers ride on the transplanter and place plants into the planting wheels as the machine moves through the field. Crops may be planted in multiple rows with close spacing throughout the growing season. Seeds may be planted by hand or with a walk-behind push seeder. Seed depth and spacing will vary by crop and will be performed according to supervisor instruction. Workers may also assist in greenhouse operations, including mixing potting soil, filling containers, forming soil blocks, planting seeds, and potting up transplants. Pay will be hourly.

Experience Requirement: 2 month(s) verifiable experience in commercial agriculture experience hand harvesting vegetables required. Applicants must furnish job references from employers of the last 5 years establishing acceptable prior experience. Job requires worker to complete tasks in asparagus, arugula, beans, beets, broccoli, brussel sprouts, cabbage, cauliflower, carrots, celery, celeriac, collards, corn, cucumbers, eggplant, fennel, garlic, greens, husk cherry, kale, kohlrabi, leeks, lettuce, melons, microgreens, onions, pac choi, peas, peppers, potatoes, radishes, rutabaga, shallots, shoots, spinach, squash (summer & winter), swiss chard, tomatillo, tomatoes, turnips, herbs (cilantro, parsley, dill & basil), cut flowers, strawberries, raspberries, cherries, blackberries, apricots, plums, peaches, grapes, gooseberries, currants, and mushrooms. Worker will NOT harvest strawberries, only pack/sort. Employer will provide instructions and training on specific job duties.
