Job Duties:

Workers will perform assigned duties as instructed by their supervisor. Duties may vary from time to time. Workers will perform manual agricultural labor including hand cutting, packing, and re-packing watermelons. Duties include cleaning, loading, and unloading harvested products. Workers will grade and sort products according to supervisor instructions and packing specifications, discard defective or inferior products or foreign matter, and place acceptable products into containers. Workers may weigh, count, and place products into containers and examine containers to ensure packing specifications are met. Work may be performed in the field and packinghouse, including unloading, loading, grading, packing, making boxes, placing pallets, and cleaning the packing area at the end of the day. Packinghouse is on the farm with all agricultural products handled by workers belonging to the employer. Workers may perform manual labor to pull plastic and weeds from the fields and assist with the removal of irrigation equipment. Workers may operate forklifts or similar equipment under supervision to assist with loading and unloading agricultural products. Some workers who already possess a valid driver’s license may be asked to drive employer-provided vehicles to transport workers to and from housing, the packinghouse, or for weekly errands, as directed by the supervisor. Driving is incidental and voluntary to the primary agricultural duties.

Special Requirements:

Must be 18 years or older. Employer may conduct criminal background checks. All tools, supplies, and equipment will be provided at no cost to workers. The majority of the day is spent on ones feet. Workers must be able to climb, stand, sit, stoop, squat, kneel, crouch, bend (from the waist), push, pull, reach, and lift. Lifting requirement is up to 60 lbs. Workers must be able to withstand working in direct sunlight and weather conditions ranging from hot and humid weather, moderate rain, and cold while performing job duties. Workers should come prepared wearing appropriate clothing and footwear for the environmental and working conditions described.
