Job Duties:
All applicants must be able, willing and qualified to perform the work described in the job order and must be available for the entire period of employment specified in Section A.3 & A.4. Workers will perform a variety of manual tasks related to the planting, cultivating, and harvesting of apples, strawberries, pumpkins, sweet corn, cherries, and blueberries. Duties include tilling soil, picking stones, transplanting, weeding, hand thinning, tree training and pruning. Workers will sort, pack, and load harvest fruit in the field and level and load fruit to be transported. Workers may be asked to operate trucks, tractors, or other multi-purpose vehicles to haul tools, supplies, or crops, tilling soil, mowing grass, and cutting brushes on the farm property during the workday. Those that are requested to drive will be required to possess a valid driver’s license; no worker will be rejected for not having a driver's license. Workers who do drive will still perform the same field work and other duties as non-driving workers; driving is not a primary duty. As the need arises, workers will perform other farm-related duties such as: construct trellises; repair and paint farm buildings; planting young trees and plants, moving bin fruit and spraying; apply pesticides, herbicides, and fertilizers to crops; record information about crops; inform farmer or farm manager of crop progress; identify plant, pests, and weeds and monitor for disease to assist in determining applications of fertilizers and pesticides; set up and maintain irrigation systems; and repair and maintain farm vehicles. Workers may use hand tools such as shovels, trowels, hoes, tampers, running hooks, shears, hand saws, and knives. Workers must be able to operate agricultural equipment safely, and willing to work in various extreme weather conditions with temperatures from below 0 to 90+ degrees (F) with possible wet mornings. The work assigned is physically demanding walking, bending, stooping and kneeling for long periods of time will be required. Workers must be able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds and be able to handle and climb ladders up to 24 feet long weighing approximately 2 pounds per foot while filling picking buckets weighing up to 40 pounds. The employer will provide 1 day of training and/or 2 days of work for the worker to reach productivity standards. Harvest productivity must be at least 80 bushels per 7 hours worked of bruise-free fruit for fresh market. Workers will be directed to pick all fruit from trees or to selectively pick according to size, color, or crop conditions and state of maturity. Workers may be instructed to selectively pick mature fruit according to size, color, and other USDA grade standards. All fruit must be handled with care to avoid bruising. The orchard foremen will inspect each worker’s picked fruit according to instructions given daily. Workers should report to work in their own suitable clothing and be available to work 8-hour shifts within the hours of 7:00am - 7:00pm from Monday through Saturday. This totals 48 hours per week. The 7:00 AM to 7:00 PM range accounts for orchard conditions (e.g., weather or crop readiness) to ensure workers complete the required hours. Workers will not work a full 12-hour. Workers may offer to work on Sunday, subject to mutual agreement between the employer and the employee. Workers will be given a 60-minute lunch break which is staggered between 11am - 1pm as decided by the workers and management. Workers may choose where to eat their lunch and return to work after their 60 minutes are up. The daily or weekly work schedules may vary due to weather, sunlight, temperature, crop conditions, and other factors. Employers will notify workers of any change to the schedule. Employer will furnish to workers without cost all tools and equipment required to perform all duties assigned.
