Job Duties:
All job duties are closely and directly related to the production of silage and livestock. Perform any combination of the following tasks required in general farm work and the production of silage: adjust alignment of pipes ; adjust gates and pipe connections to control water flow; adjust, repair, and service farm machinery and notify supervisors when machinery malfunctions; assemble and place pipe in assigned patterns in fields; assist with irrigating forage; evaluate the condition of the crop/weather and adjust harvesting and post-harvest activity based on evaluation; irrigate soil through operation of sprinkler systems which includes but is not limited to adjusting valves to start and/or adjust water flow, using proper material and methods to repair irrigation equipment; Irrigate soil, irrigation with hand lines and flood irrigation; load and unload crops or containers of materials, manually or using conveyors, skid steer, forklifts, or transfer augers ; load hoppers, containers, or conveyors to feed machines with products, using forklifts, transfer augers, skid steer, shovels, or pitchforks; loading/unloading trucks; mix and spray fertilizer or pesticide solutions to control insects, fungus and weed growth, and diseases ; mix specified material or chemicals and dump solutions/powders into irrigation system or sprayer machinery; monitor soil moisture levels; plant, cultivate, fertilize, apply chemicals and harvest hay; prepare irrigation water orders; remove pipe from fields and place in storage; remove pipe from storage; shovel and pack dirt in low spots or cut trenches to direct water flow; weigh crop-filled trailers, and record weights and other identifying information Perform any combination of the following tasks attending to livestock: administer medication as needed; apply herbicides to noxious, invasive and poisonous plant species on grazing areas; assist feed mill operators with mixing feed and delivering to feed bunks; assist with loading and unloading livestock according to shipping schedules; break ice over frozen water sources; clean and disinfect livestock corrals, pens and handling facilities; clean stalls by removing soiled bedding and manure,replace with fresh bedding; feed and water and ensure adequate provision of both; inspect and clean livestock waterers; inspect hay feed bunks and fork hay daily, and empty and clean bunks as necessary; lift and stack bales of hay and sacks of grain and mineral onto a feed truck or wagon; load bales of hay and/or sacks of grain onto truck or trailer used for feeding; loading/unloading trucks; maintain/clean and fill water troughs and buckets; mix and feed specific feed rations to cattle; monitor animals for weight gain, thrift and health problems; move animals to appropriate pens; prepare winter pastures and feed pad sites by removing debris, fallen branches, and old fencing; distribute gravel or hay mulch to stabilize muddy or degraded surfaces where livestock are concentrated; spread clean bedding materials in livestock corrals, pens and handling facilities; Walk pens and check feed and water levels ; weigh animals and record weights

Special Requirements:
Required to: live and work singly or in small groups of workers in isolated areas for extended periods of time, work outdoors in all types of weather and may experience occasional exposure to hazards such as poisonous snakes and large game animals, biting insects and extreme temperature, work with and around farm machinery such as tractors, UTVs and ATVs for supplemental feeding purposes and movement of livestock, work with and around farm machinery such as tractors for haying and supplemental feeding purposes and ATVs for irrigating and the movement of livestock, Workers receive daily supervision and on-site training (1-3 months). No independent operation of farm equipment with out supervisor approval and safety check, to operate equipment and machinery required to perform job duties indicated in a safe and responsible manner, to maintain equipment and machinery to a standard established by the employer, spray pastures and/or fence lines for poisonous plants and/or noxious weeds
