- Job Duties:
- The groom for our Thoroughbred farm will be responsible for the daily care and management of Thoroughbred horses. Duties include feeding and watering horses according to established schedules, grooming and bathing horses, cleaning and maintaining stalls and barns, and ensuring horses have clean bedding and water at all times. The groom will also walk horses, turn them out to paddocks, and safely handle horses during routine daily activities. In our specific breeding operation, the groom must assist in supervising pregnant mares, monitoring their condition, and reporting any health concerns. The groom will assist with foaling when necessary and provide care to newborn foals and weanlings, including observing their health, assisting with feeding when needed, and ensuring their safety and proper development. The groom will also assist with the care and preparation of yearlings intended for sale, including daily grooming, bathing, handling, and maintaining their overall condition to ensure they are properly presented for inspections and sales. Additional duties wil include cleaning equipment, maintaining barn areas, assisting with the movement of horses between barns and paddocks, observing horses for signs of illness or injury, and promptly reporting concerns to farm management. The groom must follow all farm safety procedures and handle horses in a safe and humane manner at all times.
