Job Duties:
Workers will operate tractors, loaders, forage harvesters, silage choppers, manure spreaders, fertilizer applicators, sprayers, and other agricultural equipment to support seasonal farm operations from June through January. June through August- Workers are heavily involved in silage production and peak fieldwork. Duties include mowing and preparing forage crops such as corn or sorghum at proper maturity, operating silage choppers and forage harvesters, hauling materials from fields, packing and covering silage piles, and maintaining proper storage conditions to ensure fermentation and prevent spoilage. This period is highly time-sensitive and requires continuous equipment operation based on crop readiness and weather conditions. September through November- Work shifts into fall harvest and continued field management. Duties also include increased equipment maintenance, land upkeep, and preparation for colder weather, including repositioning irrigation lines and maintaining infrastructure. December through January- Duties shift to winter-related agricultural work. Workers focus on maintaining and winterizing equipment, performing repairs on machinery, irrigation systems, and facilities, and preparing equipment and fields for the next production cycle. Weather conditions during this time require additional monitoring and upkeep of water systems, equipment, and structures to prevent freezing or damage. Additional duties throughout include spreading manure and fertilizer, transporting tanks, operating sprayers, mowing, and performing routine equipment maintenance and minor mechanical repairs to ensure machinery remains operational during peak use periods, and any other duties as assigned by the employer. Workers may also assist with general livestock related support tasks. These duties may include moving cattle between pens, distributing feed using equipment, maintaining water systems, cleaning work areas, removing manure, and maintaining pens and facilities, particularly during periods of heat or changing weather conditions or when large amounts of cattle are brought to the facility. Workers may observe livestock for general health including administering vaccinations when needed. Workers must be able to perform duties outdoors in a variety of conditions, including extreme heat, cold, wind, dust, and varying weather conditions. Work may require prolonged standing, walking, bending, lifting, and operating equipment for extended periods.
