Job Duties:
This job is for a First Line Supervisor. Duties include: Day-to-Day Crop Growing Management: Supervise, with hands-on involvement, all farming activities, which may include any of the following: irrigation system installation (drip tape, pipe and spray for soil), field prep, planting, nutrient management, pesticide applications, disease management, pollination, pruning, harvesting, checking quality, farm maintenance, tractor operation, etc. Monitor workers to ensure that safety regulations are followed, warning or disciplining those who violate safety regulations. Train employees for, field preparation, planting, harvest, cultivating, weeding, the use of machinery and any other farming-related activity. Inspect the assigned crop and field and determine conditions for cultivating, spraying, weeding or harvesting. Coordinate dismantling, moving and setting up equipment for the job. Schedule work crews, equipment, or transportation for the different work locations. Plan work schedules according to personnel and equipment availability. Pesticide Management Program: Document applications and results. Execute the Pesticide Plan in the assigned farm. Fertilizer Management Program: Optimize plant health. Document application and results. If using medium (including any solid or liquid designed to support plant growth) sample, test and analyze results to determine the course of action. Compliance: Comply with all labor laws, global gap or food safety audits, company policy and workers safety. Operate Equipment: Inspects equipment such as bathroom trailers, farm vehicles, first aid kits and water containers are in safe and operable conditions. Ensures that all employees wear the proper work attire to avoid work-related accident or food safety violations. Operates tractor or truck to move trailer as necessary during workday. Use of level board Attach farm implements such as plows, discs, sprayers, or harvesters to tractors, using bolts and hand tools. Follow and adhere to all personal and equipment safety requirements, to include but not limited the use of personal protective equipment. Discing, rolling and cultivating. Irrigation of strawberry farms by turning on water pumps. Oversee personnel doing any of these tasks. Basic Farm Machinery Repairs: Assist with basic farm machinery repairs such as farm implements and lawn mowers. Adjust, repair, and service farm machinery and notify the farm manager when machinery malfunctions. Irrigation and Fumigation: Coordinate with his crew the irrigation and fumigation of the ranch, defining how, when and what to spray on the crop. In coordination with the Farm Manager is responsible of giving instructions on when and how to irrigate the assigned farm or taking decisions in his own farm on when and how to spray. Informs employees of pesticide application and follows proper protocol to avoid having them come in contact with pesticides. Use of pesticides and herbicides as per farm manager instructions. Take decisions on the application of fertilizers and pesticides by hand and by tractor.

1 year of verifiable experience overseeing people in strawberry farming and one year of experience in the use of tractors required. Knowledge of Berry Fertilization required. Employee must be able to obtain or possess a drivers license and be able to be insured under the company insurance. The cost of the license will be reimbursed upon presenting the receipt.
