Job Duties:
Crops/Commodities: Various crops including but limited to vegetables, flowers, tobacco and Christmas trees.. Primary duties (performed the majority of workdays): Duties include preparing land for planting by tilling, hoeing, and cultivating soil; planting, seeding, and transplanting crops; and performing ongoing crop maintenance such as irrigating, weeding, thinning, pruning, and suckering. Workers will cultivate and harvest a variety of crops, including but not limited to vegetables, flowers, tobacco, and Christmas trees, and must handle all products with care to prevent damage and maintain quality. Greenhouse work includes covering structures with plastic, preparing growing media, filling trays or pots, seeding, watering, and monitoring plant growth and environmental conditions. Workers will apply fertilizers and general-use pesticides and may assist in the application of restricted-use pesticides under the direct supervision of a certified applicator, in accordance with all applicable safety regulations. Tobacco-related duties include planting, cultivating, and, as crops mature, cutting, spearing, hanging, taking down, stripping leaves, and bundling, with an emphasis on careful handling to avoid damage to leaves. Workers that have proper license may drive vehicles to transport workers and be offered additional hours. Secondary duties (performed on less than half of the workdays in the contract period): Duties may also include operating, maintaining, and performing basic repairs on farm machinery, equipment, and buildings; driving tractors and other agricultural vehicles for fieldwork and for loading and unloading trailers; and transporting crops to barns, storage areas, or other designated locations. Workers may assist with the setup, operation, and maintenance of irrigation systems, including monitoring water usage and ensuring proper distribution. Additional tasks may include general farm upkeep and other related duties as assigned, consistent with the nature of agricultural work and in accordance with employer instructions and applicable safety standards. Allergies to ragweed, goldenrod, honey bees, insecticides, herbicides, fungicides, or related chemicals may affect a worker's ability to perform the job. Persons seeking employment in this position must be available for the entire period requested by the employer. Employer reserves the right to discharge an obviously unqualified worker, malingerer or recalcitrant worker who is physically able but is unwilling to perform the work necessary for the employer to grow a premium quality product, or for any other lawful reason. Employer may request, but not require, workers to work more than the stated daily hours and/or on a worker's Sabbath or federal holidays. Worker must report to work at designated time and place each day. Daily or weekly work schedule may vary due to weather, sunlight, temperature, crop conditions, and other factors. Employer will notify workers of any change to start time. Workers will have an unpaid lunch break.

One month of prior experience in agricultural work is required. Work is physically demanding and is performed in extreme weather conditions. Workers will handle up to 30 lbs. up to 20 ft. off the ground while standing on wooden poles. Work requires repetitive bending, stooping, lifting and carrying up to 50 lbs.
