Job Duties:
The primary task will be the coffee harvest. Workers are required to hand-pick ripe coffee cherries, using a basket worn around the waist and storing it in an individual bag. Laborers should be able to pick over an 45 pounds of cherries per hour. Most of the workday are spent standing and performing continuous movement outdoors. Workers will rarely remain in one location and will move from field to field for extended periods. Workers must be able to perform prolonged standing, walking on uneven, steep, or sloped terrain (including uphill and downhill), sitting, slide, squatting, kneeling, crouching, bending at the waist, pushing, pulling, reaching, lifting, and carrying items weighing between 5 and 50 pounds. Pre-harvest duties may include tasks such as fertilizing, weeding, and controlling the coffee berry borer and other pests. Post-harvest duties may include pruning coffee trees, cleaning conservation ditches, grinding, drying, and packing coffee, and replanting or restoring trees. Workers may also perform duties related to the cultivation and harvesting of bananas and other crops as coffee ripens. Workers are not required to work overtime but, if worked, will be paid in accordance with applicable laws and employer policies. The supervisor will inform workers at the end of each workday of any changes to the start time or work schedule for the following day. Regular and punctual attendance is required of all workers during scheduled work hours and/or assigned work period. Unsatisfactory attendance, including tardiness, excessive requests to leave before the end of the workday, early resignation, or similar conduct, may result in disciplinary action. Workers must notify their supervisor as far in advance as possible prior to the start of the workday if they are unable to report to work as scheduled.
